The Mal-tease Falcon?

I thought I'd framed another introspective noir setting. But then I noticed that the building looks like it has a face. A face with a slight smile -- albeit, one that is literally in the gutter.

Oh well.

I can't help noticing the numerology. The numbers add up to a...5...! It is no wonder that the face is smiling!!
Good thing that there is a fire hydrant close by, as things may get a bit hot.

It makes me think of one of my favorite children's books, "The Little House," with its smiling face. I love Shanna's reference to numerology. For those who don't know, 5 can elude to fun and sex. Who knows what goes on behind those smiling windows. :)

Good morning everyone . Can I just say that I HATE earthquakes? Nothing like a jolting roll at four AM.

Mister Earl said...

This building has a one-brow!

Yes, that was quite a jolt this morning, but luckily it didn't last long.

dbdubya said...

What am I missing, Shanna? 1427 adds up to 14.

As for the earthquake, I slept through it. First I knew of it was reading Laurie's blog. It's amazing what GOSP has done to educate, enlighten, and inspire!

Laurie Allee said...

DB, you take the 1 and the 4 from the 14 and it becomes 5. :-)

I thought the quake was much bigger than 4.4 because it woke both Jon and me. I usually sleep through those things. I'm glad Little Bit slept through it!

While we're on the subject of quakes... does anyone know who to call to install an earthquake gas shutoff valve. I don't remember what it's called but we had one on the west side. Seems like our realtor said South Pas didn't require them like LA, but I don't remember what he said to do about getting one. Does the gas company do it?

The lighter side of noir.

4.4 is pretty darned big. Be still my heart.

I'm going to stay tuned for the gas shutoff valve update -- does it shut things down automatically? I've got a little wrench attached to my meter so I can shut it off.

WV: Chicken. Swear to god.

I had a gas shut-off valve installed in 1995. It's a device with a large ball bearing that balances in shallow cup. During a large earthquake, it falls out of the cup and blocks the flow of gas. It's an easy process to re-set it when it stops shaking. It's a simple device a plumber installs. It's not overly sensitive. It's never shut off during any of our recent rollers.

I got mine through Pacific Enterprises, which was affiliated with the Gas Company. It cost $208installed at the time. The phone number was (800) 638-2032. Tell em The Dubya sent ya.

If they no longer exist, try calling the Gas Company and they will probably refer you to whomever they are now affiliated with. If they don't do that, call a reputable plumber.

I too slept right through it...guess that comes with being a born and bred (and old...er, older) Californian!!!

And I've never heard the connection of 5 to fun and sexy!!! I've always known it to represent change... hmmm...

I'm sorry for the earthquake that jolted you out of bed. I can hope, with you, that it is all you get.

As for Numerology, it does creep up now and again. Since I am the one who introduced it to my family back when I was studying it, I feel somewhat responsibile. 5 seems to be the number most remembered. We all have personal numerological years which have some bearing on our lives, according to whether or not we choose to look at it. And the numbers change each calendar year. You may get yours by adding 2010 to your birth day and month. For instance I was born on June 7. Add that to 2010 (3)and reduce to a single digit, which is 7. Now, of course, you won't have any idea what it means. But this will remain your personal year until next January. I can only say that the number 7 has to do with introspection as one facet, which seems to apply to me this year because of all that has happened in my life. For further information go to Numerology on the web.

Hmmmm....thanks Dixie Jane...according to my calculations, I'm in a 5 year!!!

That dirty building.

Have fun, Chieftess!

One thing is for sure, I'll never live in another 7 house.
I live in a 6 now, which I think means home and family. Is that right Dixie Jane?

We like it here. In fact, this is where we had our wedding, right in front of the fireplace. I met Laurie's Jon at the wedding and Laurie got my bouquet!

Laurie, come on over and take a shot of the rugged-looking russet baking potato that I saw on my kitchen counter this morning. It had such interesting markings that I held it in my hand to take a closer look...and guess what I saw...3 tiny indentations that formed a cock-eyed smiling face! Oh, well...

Dixie Jane, what does 3 mean?

Laurie Allee said...

I really don't buy into numerology, but it is fun to read about the meanings of numbers, and the Kaballah is really interesting and magical. Unlike SHanna, I love 7s. Ours is a 7 house. Great for writers and readers! The 7 vibe is all about study and knowledge, the solitary thing is an exaggeration. It has to do with seeking truth and creative expression and, yes, introspection. I think my Life Path number is a 7 -- something like one's zodiac sign.

But you can definitely go down the rabbit hole with this stuff.

Laurie Allee said...

Sumi, 3 is all about communication, new media, being in front of the public, conversations with people, new friends, getting your point across, making statements, etc.

Funny how much I know about this stuff. (Thanks, Mom!)

Laurie Allee said...

Oh, and you don't want a 9 hospital room or flight number... 9 means endings! (Like I said. Rabbit hole time, here.)

Auntie S said...

Forgot to tell you that I like the caption "Mal Tease Falcon" and the stark and friendly black and white image. It's amazing what you do with your camera and the comments that they inspire!

Laurie Allee said...

Thanks, Sumi!

Thanks, everyone. I just love being able to post every day and receive such great feedback from all of you. Who knew this would be about earthquakes and numerology? Well, why not!? :-)

YOu guys are all great.

Laurie Allee said...

I was trying to remember it and I did -- the book Star Signs by Linda Goodman is a really fun introduction into numerology, if you guys are so inclined.

Now, I promise I'll stop commenting so much on my own post.

Dixie Jane said...

Shanna: Check your e-mail. I couldn't get a comment to post.

Shanna said...

Dixie Jane: I don't see an email from you, but perhaps you caught the fact that my mailing address is a 2 (pairing). Right?
But the house is on 2 lots and the legal address is a 6.

Is ESP better than E-mail?

Okay, so I took Dixie Jane's advice and did a little research on the internet. I found several sites under numerology. I entered the information they wanted to give me a score - name, date of birth, etc. Each website had different numbers for me, with different meanings. And, I never could find an explanation how or why 1427 became 5. So, it all seems to be a little too "woo-woo" for me. Since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, I think I'll stick with Irish Whiskey to find the deeper meaning in life.

Shanna said...

DB: You add the 1 and the 4 and that gives you a 5.

HAPPY ST.PATRICK'S DAY! tomorrow!

dbdubya said...

I got that Shanna, but why? Why add only the first two numbers?

WV: sainnium - form of insanity caused by numbers.

Laurie Allee said...

Not just the first two numbers, you just keep adding all the numbers until they are reduced to a single number. It doesn't matter how you do it -- they'll end up with the same final single digit. If you add 14 and 27 you get 41 -- then add 4 and 1 to 5. If you add 1 plus 4 plus 2 plus 7 you get 14, then 1 and 4 make 5. If you add 142 and 7 you get 149, then add 14 plus 9 to get 23 -- 2 plus 3 gets 5.

Math is so cool. It's magic!

I like the idea of finding the meaning of life in Irish Whiskey, though!

I'm fond of the rule of nine. 2x9=18, 1+8=9. It works out to any insane degree. 550x9=4950 --
4+9=13; 5+0=5; 13+5=18; 1+8=9.

This Will Explain It

dbdubya said...

Now I'm really confused! I also am reminded why I never liked math in school. I think I'll break out the Irish Whiskey a day early.

dbdubya said...

Thanks, Mr. Earl. Now it's perfectly clear!

WV: - cytochod - New Math

Laurie Allee said...

Hiker, I love that magical 9! WHen I learned that in school I decided that the world really was magical.

I really enjoyed math when I was little, and then I ended up with a math teacher in the 4th grade who spent our classes playing old Orleans songs on his acoustic guitar and doing a musician version of the palookaville speech Brando gave in On The Waterfront. Not much math was learned before he finally moved to Nashville -- and I was behind and in the dark forever after!

Multiplying by 11 is pretty dandy, too.

Earl, nice one!

TheChieftess said...

Math cool? Magical 9??? You guys must have done that new math Mr. Earl's talkin' about!!! The closest I came to all that was binary math...I'm still trying to figure that one out!!! (NOT!!!!)

Shanna said...

Yeah, let's all drink a toast, Irish style, and find the meaning of life.
I'll have a Guinness, please.
