The South Pasadena Fun Fair continues today. My family spent most of the afternoon there yesterday -- along with quite a few friends and neighbors. I knew the fair would have fun rides and kid's games, great food and loud music. But what I didn't expect was the treasure trove of books available at the used book sale. For $8 I scored a 1967 hardbound anthology of 45 great modern plays of the first part of the 20th Century, a beautiful 1920s edition of Dumas' The Queen's Necklace, a first edition of Daniel Dennett's Consciousness Explained and a quantum physics reference. (And I only looked through a few stacks...)
Fun for everyone -- from daredevils to bookworms. For more images, take a look at my overflow blog.

Good Morning Laurie,
What a great photograph! Colors, excitement,
whirls, and kids exuberance!
It's a beauty!
Everything a kid could want to do and the kid that is in every parent too. What fun! And what a book haul. Knowing my book-loving girl I know you were in book-heaven. I'm glad you had such a fun day and I hope you got good and sticky with cotton candy.
The book browsing is one of my fav rides at these Fair's.
Very cool -- both the photo and your daughter's quote
everything is right about this photo. My second favorite of yours. A different kind of necklace.

Colors and shapes
are great from this angle
WHAT FUN - I do wish I could have been there or at least been a bug on your shoulder. Great book finds too. More photos - more more.
Well, I finished working the Korean BBQ booth. And let me tell you, there are a bunch of dad's in the back grilling all the meat so it must be good. As for me, I got a giant plate of shortbread for only three tickets -- that's $1.50.

This photo is the FAIR poster child!!! What fun. Glad you and your sweet family got to have all the fun. Yo sistah has a way with words, don't she!!! :) Wish I did!

Thanks, everyone, for such lovely comments and kind words. I really appreciate you fine people. This is a new favorite of mine -- one of those happy, lucky shots that happened on the fly. It's tricky to shoot a moving tilt-a-whirl against a bright sky. After shooting it with a dozen settings I managed to capture that smiling girl... score! Luck. Sheer luck.
Judy, now you've started something... you're going to have to write verse every day! :-)
Margaret, I got so caught up in the books, I missed the bake sale! My poor family's sweet tooth eclipsed by my bookish nature. (Not the first time.)
Until tomorrow, everyone...
Book sale? Bake sale? That's a tough one.
I'm looking forward to a future post wherein quantum physics is explained in 25 words or less.
Good on you LA, I wouldn't even have attempted that shot.
Love the colors and the compostion!!! It exudes fun and laughter!!!
Photos have come really nice..keep going..great work..
Nice photo...wonderful thoughts....
Thanks for sharing...
