Everyday Bliss

I couldn't help but smile (and steal a shot from behind a pole) when I saw this happy little family waiting for the train at Mission Station. Maybe it was something special about the rattle, or the accompanying beatbox vocal improv of the dad, or the beatific grace radiating from the mother's lovely face, but that baby was giggling loudly enough to be heard across the platform.

Sometimes the mundane feels truly profound.

This is totally charming and has universal appeal. What a sweet moment. Don't you feel like you are part of their family for a brief second? Great composition and tonal range too.

Perhaps the mundane IS profound, and that's what existentialism means. I like this picture. Makes me happy.

Would that we could maintain this feeling (and outward display) of familial bliss throughout our lives. What a happy moment. I can almost hear the giggling infant. I'm glad you stopped behind a pole for this one.

So many emotions beautifully captured - pride, love, bliss, contentment.

I wish the family could see the picture.

Hello folks,

It's funny how emotional you can become when you take pictures of people. You end up with these frozen moments that you study and memorize... and suddenly these strangers are as familiar to you, at least after enough glances at the images, as members of your own family.

I feel such warmth for the people I've photographed because I've been able to really see them, to study them. I can only imagine painters fall in love with a lot of their models.

Judy, thanks for such kind words. I was happy with the tonal range here, and I appreciate that you noticed!

Petrea, it makes me happy, too.

Dixie Mom, my only regret is that I didn't see the baby. But I'll never forget that tiny little giggle.

Susan, I wish they could too! I remember a photo of Kim's at Seattle Daily Photo. It was a father hoisting a son up from on top of a wall. I forget where they were or what exactly they were doing but it was such a glorious frozen moment of father/son love and adventure. I thought at the time how much I wished they could see the photo.

Virginia, you're the master of capturing people with a camera!

Thanks for being here, people. Until tomorrow...
