Love Note

I can't speak with certainty about very many things. Oh, but I have my suspicions.... I suspect that soy isn't nearly as good for us as they say it is. I suspect that almost every conspiracy theory contains a kernel of truth. I suspect that many of today's known facts will someday be in the same dustbin as flat earth theory. I suspect that consciousness is far more phenomenal, enduring and individual than anything religion or neuroscience can begin to explain. I suspect that fashion designers secretly sit around laughing at what they can sucker women into wearing. I suspect that the final season of LOST is going to be a disappointment. I suspect that rock and roll does more for curing depression than Prozac and that jazz can inspire genius. I suspect that I'm rambling. Again.

But there is one thing I know: love is real. Whether this universe is merely Newtonian-mechanical or M-theory dimensional -- love is the stuff that fires it up and keeps it humming. Love. Jesus was right about it. So was John Lennon. And I'm lucky enough to have great treasure troves of it -- indeed, probably more than my share.

Today, I want everybody to revel in a giant rave-worthy love buzz because it's my wedding anniversary. Today marks 8 beautiful years with my beloved -- the one who puts up with all my rants and suspicions and who loves me anyway. My Zen-trickster groom. My comrade and champion. The smartest man I've ever met. The world's best father. The love of my life.

Happy anniversary, Jon!

Are we near to the silver, or is it golden, anniversary?

I'm a real sucker for anything having to do with hearts and flowers and love. Yes, and I do get weepy. I'm only a mother-in-law, but I am so glad that we married Jon. He is amazing. Together you are amazinger. I knew I was lucky to have Judy and Shanna with loving mates and then you and Jon came along. And your daughter has received the best gift you can give a child. Her parents love each other. Happy Anniversary. Lift your goblets in celebration. I love you, Laurie, Jon and Little Bit.

Happy anniversary, you two.

(Interesting, Laurie--our 8th is in 5 days.)

That is some photo. That's at a golf course? Outstanding. Looks solid. Appropriate, isn't it?

Happy Anniversary. When I first saw the post I thought perhaps you got Valentines Day and Halloween confused. Many more years to you and Jon. Your Mom's right, your little one has the best possible gift of all.

I confess that, through the years, whenever my girlfriends would get married, I always secretly thought their husbands weren't good enough for them.

Except for Laurie and Jon.

Jon, you are living proof that a man can be all we hope for, and I am SO glad you were born, and that you found splendiferous Laurie, and that you married and created the bright light that is Raine.

Congratulations to all three of you, and thanks for inspiring my unending love and admiration!

Happy, Happy, HAPPY Anniversary!!!! Little Bit definitely is a lucky little girl!!!

And, it's our anniversary 4 days from now...though you've got us by a year!!! It'll be seven for us on Monday!!! But I take umbrage with your assertion that Jon is the smartest man you ever met...cause my hubby is the smartest!!!

ps...I suspect you're right...soys not that good for us, I know fashion designers are laughing all the way to the bank, rock and roll definitely works better than prozac (add a little sunshine in there too), there's definitely some kind of truth behind conspiracy theories, and consciousness is definitely more awesome than we can ever imagine...wonderful blog Laurie...Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary, SweetiePea!

I love the photo. The cracks on the bottom look like legs to me. I see a smiling person who's all heart. That can't be me. I think it must be you.

I find it hard to believe you don't know, but if you don't...
you are the most wonderful, knowing suspecting, ranting, loving, smart, courageous, curious, beautiful woman I've ever met. You are the best mom to Raine and the best wife in the whole world. Marrying you was the smartest thing I'll ever do.

I'll love you forever and a week.

Jon

Well I love your ramblings, Laurie. Bit worried about the soy, mind you. I'm a vegetarian!

Congratulations on your 8 years. You are blessed but then you know that and I love that you pass it on, I love your photos and the way you write and what you write. Bon anniversaire!

Love Note reminds me of Concrete Rose from last year. I like the sweet simplicity of their image.

Happy Anniversary, Jon & Laurie. May your hearts be young and full of love forever with your sweet Raine!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Laurie and Jon!

When I see a smiling pumpkin-o-lantern, I think of you both.
And the remarkablest (?) thing is that I met Jon at Jim's and my wedding, and I KNEW.

This was a great post. I'm normally a skeptic when it comes to love and romance, but your words really touched me. I think you're right. I think love is real. Happy Anniversary to you!

Laurie Allee said...

Thank you, Natalie. It's funny, but I'm a skeptic about everything... but a total sap about love. For me, it's the force that just ties everything together.

Thanks for the kind words!

Ah, this is so sweet!

It's late, but I just have to say: Happy Anniversary, Laurie-o ("-o," in case you didn't know already, is a kind of endearment)! I loved hearing the story of your wedding and think that you and Jon must be awesome together!
