Swingers

You know, nothing say home sweet home quite like a wholesome scene of dormer windows, a shade tree and a tire swing.

Um, yeah. About that tire swing...

My first thought pegged it as something out of an old German expressionist film but, upon reflection, maybe it's actually a hobby horse. (From an old German expressionist film?) South Pas is definitely kooky enough to inspire a photographic series on unusual swings and things.

Someone went to a lot of work to create this rubber creature! Very inventive.

Now that is one cool hobby horse/tire swing. Very resourceful!

I can hear a frustrated mother telling her child to go play on the swing... "I'm tired of the swing, mommy!" So mommy says "Go play on the hobby horse"... sigh. Mom's never understand, do they?

Those types of tire swings aren't that unusual - you might even see a guy selling them on the side of a Texas highway, along with bags of freshly shelled pecans or canned jalapeno jelly. What I like best about this image is the scalloped umbrella. For some reason, my eye keeps pulling left, right to it. :~)

In Vancouver that tire string would be considered public art.

Gorgeous sycamore. And yes, a photo series please.

OK, it's probably just me, but... this photo reminds me of the "dark side" transition that occurred in that creepy old TV series, when a tranquil scene like this was darkened a few shades and thereby acquired a sinister cast. I guess it's all the shadows that make it difficult to discern details. For example... on the ground below the umbrella: are those discarded toys, or...?

Somebody give me some miniature snicker bars and tell me that Halloween is over!

It's not your father's yard swing.

Swing? Looks like some sort of torture device disguised as rubber mobile.

Brenda's AZ: Too funny! I can picture that as well. "Go play on that hobby horse swing Uncle Frank made for you!" "But Moooom, why can't I have a store-bought swingset?" LOL
My dad made my swingset, and it even included a tire swing, so I have a soft spot in my heart for this little guy! I think he's cute now, but the 8-year-old me would have preferred the one from the Sears Catalog!

I think it's ingenious. But I wouldn't want to sit on it in shorts after it's been in the sun for a while.

You guys are great! Thanks, everyone. Til next time...

This is idyllic. I love the sun and its reflections, that tree, the house and the rubber. I agree with Petrea to.
