Curb Appeal

Just when I think I've photographed every classic car in South Pas, I turn a corner and find another one. This cool set of wheels certainly brightened up an otherwise dreary and overcast morning.

Pontiacs were hot cars in the
60's. I would guess this is about a '66 Tempest convertible with a big ol' V8 engine. My Dad had a '62 Bonneville convertible, a '63 Bonneville, and a '69 Bonneville. The Bonnie was the full size Pontiac and the tempest was midsize. All were great cars with what GM described as "wide track." Although not a GTO, the hottest of them all, the markings on this classic would indicate it had about a 360 cubic inch V8. Your cars bring back some great memories of a time when gasoline was 28 cents a gallon and there was truly a difference between a Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Chevy and Cadillac.

It IS a '66 and what a beauty. I am still holding out for a '71 white LeMans, which is one step up from the Tempest, and one below the famous GTO. Of course, if a "goat" was suddenly in my driveway, I certainly wouldn't turn it down.

For people who love old cars, your town is a paradise.

Beautiful classic. It seems to fit in with it's background. It almost looks like you could have taken this photo 30 years ago.

From my doctor's 6th floor exam room window, I looked down into the parking lot to see if I could spot my silver Honda... and was amazed that EVERY car in the lot was either silver or some monotone variation, like beige pearl.

We used to see many red cars on the road, and now, they are becoming an exception. I LOVE red cars, even if I have a silver Honda ego.

Fear not, Yak. There are still a few of us around who drive red cars.

Love the car. Although I've never owned a Pontiac, my dad bought a new '59 Pontiac safari wagon - white with red interior - and we enjoyed some great, long road trips.

I spent last Saturday at a huge auto festival held nearby in Lakeland, Florida (and posted several of the cars.) Pontiacs were very well represented, GTOs were numerous of course.

Nice post. Love your site.

I notice (even in my own garage) a plethora of white four-wheeled refrigerator look-alikes. Or silver bullets. But as for cars in general, new or old, I leave that up to Judy and her husband who always seem to be in the know. So I tip my bonnet to the red whatever it is and appreciate it in all its glory. And to Laurie who is a car magnet.

dbdubya: While out driving today, I noticed more red cars on the road than usual. Or... could it be that those who patronize medical centers purchase a disproportionate number of blah-colored cars? Hmmmmm.....

Ah the appeal of the red classic!
I wish I still had the '70something red/black vinyl roof Monte Carlo my dad passed on to me. V8. We sold it to a guy for $300 bucks - hope he did spruce it up as a low rider.

Thanks, gang!

And welcome, Frank!

WOuld you believe I saw this car again today? I was reaching for my camera when I realized it was the same car. So far I have managed not to post the same car twice. (Um... I think...)

Until next time, everyone. (Blogger willing, that is. Where were YOU for the huge blogger outage?)

Laurie - I think your viewers have a better memory than you. You've posted that cool early 50's Cadillac that's always parked on Fremont south of the Post Office twice. But, you have the ability to find sll the old ones so it's not surprising you would get the same one twice.
