Art in the Streets

Looking for an inspirational Saturday night? Spark your creative fire, find your muse or just check out some great art at South Pasadena ArtsFest, tonight from 5-10PM. The California Art Club Plein Air Paint-out exhibition will be on display in the South Pasadena Library Community Room. In addition eight more galleries and studios will be open within walking distance. (But don't worry -- you can catch the Artmobile bus if you don't feel like making the stroll.)

Live music, beer, wine and food will be available at the Mission Gold Line Station plaza, with more jamming down the street at South Pasadena Music Center. A wide assortment of styles will be featured including alt-rock, jazz, Celtic, world music, vintage, flamenco, innovative percussion and classical.

Don't miss this chance to celebrate South Pasadena's creative spirit! Click here for more information.

Don't I wish I could be a part of all of this? Shades of my former life flash before me. I know you and family will go and have a great time. You need more paintings, Laurie. Not!

That guy is painting with the colors of his own clothes!

Mrs. Dubya and I stopped by the pre-showing at the Ccmmunity Room last night. There were about 100 original paintings including one by a regular poster, Leslie Saeta. The ArtsFest is a great way to enjoy downtown South Pasadena while getting a little culture and exercise at the same time.

We went to the first So Pas Art and Music walk earlier this summer...very fun time! (although we spent most of the evening revisiting our college days while pouring beer at one of the booths at the main venue!!!) Unfortunately, we have a mandatory engagement this evening, otherwise we'd be there!!! I highly recommend this event!!! (but make sure you've got your walkin' shoes on!!!)

Ah, the art fest... South Pasadena reminds me of my favorite line from a prayer... on earth, as it is in heaven!

Oooops!!! I stand corrected...it appears that our beer pouring was at the Music festival...(which also included some art exhibits, btw!)...The previous Arts walk was equally enjoyable!!!

Went over to the art show at the library. Many nice paintings of South Pas. Looks like they're imitating Laurie's blog.

Hey folks,

Had a great time at the festival. Little Bit had fun frolicking with kids outside the library. I had fun drooling over the art. You guys don't know this about me but I have a terrible weakness about buying art. I managed to get through a couple of galleries and the Plein Air exhibition without buying anything this time -- but only because I caved and bought three pieces at the recent Arts and Crafts fair.

Leslie Saeta's piece was a real heartwarmer since it was directly inspired by one of my recent photos of the library. Leslie's work is remarkable and if any of you haven't checked out her blog yet, please do. You can see a few more of Leslie's paintings sparked by my photos right here. If I could paint, I'd paint just like her!

We really enjoyed seeing SoPa Studios. I had never been there before and it seemed to be a thriving space with some really cool works on display. (And a groovy DJ playing trancy techno. Sweet!)

And I must say, whoever chose the wines served at the main music stage was inspired by Dionysus himself.

Sorry I didn't run into you, Mister E! I kept bumping into the marvelous Scott Feldman from the South Pas Chamber of Commerce, and lovely Joan Aguado from the Film Liason.

Thanks for all of the great comments tonight, everyone. I have oodles of pictures to upload and review now...

Until next time!

Oh, and one more moment to report -- when Little Bit dropped one of the marbles the proprietor of Zinnea gave to her, Jon managed to find it in the dark grass outside Bistro de la Gare. That's an art in itself!

Later, folks...

Thanks for the great ink, Laurie!! Wait, is it ink? Pixels? What's the shorthand these days for a plug in a blog?

Laurie Allee said...

You got me, Scott! Virtual ink? Nah, that sounds toooooo web 1.0...

Anyway, you're welcome. Always glad to link to you guys at the Chamber.
