Rodent Rules

Hats off to eagle-eyed reader Kaz for spotting this whimsical sign and emailing me about it. (Months ago. I finally found it!)

Whether chipmunks (which we do not have here in Texas) or squirrels (your variety also looks different) cross this path, it's nice to know that someone is warning us about them. Or maybe it's tongue in cheek and it's really because there are a bunch of zany people who are known to cross it.

There's an "opossum crossing" sign on Hanscom near the Hawaiian House.

Interesting to see a, "Squirrel Crossing" sign. We have, "Deer Crossing" signs all over the place and the deer busily chomping away at everything in sight. No having flowers here, which makes me sad. We have a lot of squirrels too but nobody seems to care about their crossing.

What about bear crossing signs???

We had farmer crossing signs in Kansas.

I love how the squirrel looks so frolicky on the sign. He looks like he's saying wheeeeeeee! as he runs across the street.

That squirrel's got a big head.

Chieftess...bear crossing signs are in Big Bear & such areas. Right up there with "election signs" for the Indian elections..."Chief Falling Rock" seems ALWAYS to be running!

have seen the Hanscom Opossum sign. There used to be a snake crossing sign, but someone stole it, near the snake trail on elephant hill.

I'm REALLY hoping that this squirrel is holding a large nut in his mouth, because, that head is waaaay too big---were their heads that size they might actually have some useful brains to remember where they left the peanuts they gather!

Trish: Exactly which hill is Elephant Hill? What streets is it bounded by? I looked it up on Google, but wasn't sure. Looks like it may be more in El Sereno, but I'm just not sure.

From the looks of that tail, I'm not sure that's not a skunk!

Haven't seen any bear signs up here in Mammoth...but I've seen plenty of bears!!!

Elephant hill is just south of the town. The homes in the 2000 block of Hanscom overlook it. It's the hill east of Collis and south of Hanscom. It's in El Sereno.
