In a town as smart, creative and kooky as South Pasadena, you can be sure to find great bumper stickers. (I'm sure all of you will remember my personal favorite.) But what can we make of this unusual directive? Sure, it's probably from a nifty restaurant on the coast somewhere. But what if it's code for something? A message hidden in an anagram! Yes! Let's crack this mystery right now!
Actually, the only anagrams I can come up with are: "Tubeless Hamsters" and "A Teamster Blushes."
I'd make a lousy spy.

I think the bumper sticker maker relied on spell check and didn't realize he misspelled the message. Bertha was a hog being fattened for slaughter by a 4-H Club member. Bertha had some great hams and her young owner had these bumper stickers made up to encourage friends and neighbors to bid on Bertha at auction and then enjoy those muscular hams.
That's pretty bad, but I couldn't come up with anything else.
No hidden code, just a couple of pre-teens who thought this was really, really funny back in 1998.
Dude ... you know what "mussels" stands for, right?
Heather, uh, nailed it.
It would make a teamster blush.
I'll confuse you even more by a couple of local favorites: " Eat More Possum" and "Keep Austin Weird". As for Bertha and her mussels, I don't know what to say.
I found a funny one in an anagram generator but I'm not sure if I should post it.
I'm dumbfounded!!!
So FarmGirl...what the heck does mussels stand for???
Heh. :-)
We're all so high brow!
Who’s Bertha?
Maybe we just are talking about the chef on the restaurant across the street.
Bertha's the one with the big muscles.
I guess I need to ask my almost 15 year old or 22 year old son. Maybe it'll make the anagram I found not seem as risque. HA
Is that sticker on a Hummer?
I just spent part of lunch playing around with an anagram generator. Gotta love the internet.
This is quite a weird bumper sticker.

I kinda figured that out on my own. :P
I couldn't resist a little musical interlude...

Earl! You win the prize for cracking the mystery... now, everyone go to his link to see where Bertha's mussels come from.
Thanks for playing along, kids. Even though some of you should be ashamed of yourselves. :-)
Until tomorrow...
