Tis the Season...

Holiday banners adorn lamp posts, lighted garlands span Fair Oaks and twinkly wreaths line Mission. (By the way, there are only 27 shopping days until Christmas...)

I wunder how many more Black Frydays retailers will need this year before they are outta the blue and into the black.

Laurie you are a master of color and composition. Anyone could take a shot of them putting up decorations, but only you can turn it into something so interesting, to where the composition and color make the actual subject matter nearly inconsequential.

YAY for Christmas decorations. This has a mix of the modern and the classic. Love the scallops.

Holiday decorations give such a nice 'home town' look to any city street. I specially love that ancient Santa, sleigh and reindeer in Beverly Hills, the one that stretches across Wilshire, just south of Santa Monica.

Why do you suppose this guy is up in the light fixture? Changing a bulb, or tapping into the pole's electricity to light the decorations?

Is it safe to come out now? I don't have agonize over a caption do I?

I'm lucky enough to live within spitting distance of Christmas Tree Lane. If you haven't seen it, it's worth the trip. Little Bit would love it.

Somehow, a visit to the Hiker (her blog) last evening may have affected MrEarl: It just doesn't sound like a typical ME comment. I'm not complaining. Maybe he was preoccupied with something else at such an early time in the morning for him.

AH is right about Christmas Tree Lane. And you can even combine it with a trip to the nearby Balian house with its tens of thousands of lights.

Hiker: I seem to recall your WINNING several of LA's caption contests... but I know what you mean. I visit this blog every morning for a shot of energy to get me through my day... and it IS a shock when I have to think on my mouse pad first!

My thoughts on this shot: the city worker hanging the decorations has concealed his 6-year-old daughter in the cherry-picker cab. She stands on tiptoe and peeks over the edge to get a bird's eye view of the garlands going up!

You ladies are so afraid of captioning, and I'm so into it, I had to put a sign on my wall: "If captioning lasts more than four hours, go to an emergency room immediately."

WV: Dingsame - believe me, it's not.

Laurie: Before December ends, when Mister Earl organizes his house just a bit more, you and Jon need to bring Little Bit over to look at Mister Earl's trains. I know, I know. Doesn't sound too kosher does it? But Mister Earl has two museum-quality train layouts.

Now I've just completely blown the Mister Earl mystique. Or maybe he's just way more complicated than anyone ever thought.

I know, Yak. Laurie says it's good for us.

You've got to post a picture of the trains, Earl.

WV: Suntin. Ain't that suntin.

No way, AH. Some men have etchings, I have trains.

Once again, I'll be sending out New Year's cards.

Thanks, everyone! I'm so glad for the Christmas Tree Lane reminder. Last year we had fun checking out the enormous decorated trees on St. Albans Road in San Marino -- or is it Virginia? Well, ONE of those streets near Lacy Park is insane with lights. But we never managed to get up to Christmas Tree Lane -- I think PasadenaAdjacent told me about it last year.

And Mister E -- you are on for visiting those trains. Cool, you complicated thing, you.

Farmgirl, I love that decoration, too. I'm even fond of all the fake snow at the Scientology headquarters! I love LA.

Til next time, everyone...
