My beautiful limbs invite you to stop and stare and enjoy the wonder of a tree like me. As you stand mesmerized, one of my root snakes wrap silently around your ankles, then suddenly you are gone. A faint scream is heard from somewhere in the lush foliage then silence. Shhhh, here comes another victim.
The Bartons wanted to be good neighbors, but since the cat next door started marking territory in their yard, they couldn't keep up with the gardening.
In December of 2007, after many years on the west side of Los Angeles (and at least a third of those years spent stuck in traffic on Pico Boulevard) my family settled into a happy little house in South Pasadena. This daily blog covered almost 5 years as I put down roots in my new home town -- and almost 5 more as I settled in and became a South Pas old-timer. Here it is...my time capsule of South Pasadena.

When Jack planted the beans in his yard, he realized overnight that law school was out of the question.

Tree says: I was here first, how can you drop a house in my territory?
House: Okay, you can stay, but leave your trunk outside.
Tree: Thanks, I'll provide leafy shade and joyfully rustle in the breeze.
House: Nice of you to go out on a limb for me.
