Overheard...

As I walked past the lovely Mike and Anne's restaurant and bar on Mission, I heard a snippet of conversation rise up through the cool jazz and clinking glasses.

"He's always so funny," a woman said. "That must be nice."

"Sure, he makes me laugh," another woman said, "but I don't know if it's going to work out. I need someone who also understands that it's okay to cry."

(I've been worried about the guy all week.)

AWWWWWW what a story. Maybe it will work out between the two.

You are back to the style of your work that I love best. Night shots in black and white with a glowing streetlight and a window's view. You are sharing snippets of people's lives and it's always a richer connection when you draw on the human experience. WELL DONE.

One of my favorite CRYING songs

Nice shot, Laurie. Night shots of restaurants are inviting. Never been to Mike and Anne's, but I hear it's good.

Now how do we know they were not talking about Mister Earl? Because Mister Earl knows how to cry!

Sounds like a New Yorker cartoon.

There is nothing creepier than a relationship in which tears are considered an expression of weakness.

On the other hand, nobody's perfect. Isn't acceptance part of love?

Great shot, LA. I can almost see the cool blue glow.

Hiker: As usual, you nailed it!

Yak: I think she was just talking about whether she would go to the Laker game with him.

I was going to say that maybe we should call Karin "the Carpenter," but then I thought again.

Don't you love encountering those snippets of conversation? Great shot.

A bit of a tangent here:

One of the most frustrating twelve hours I ever spent was traveling alone on a train thru France. There were four people across the aisle who engaged in rapid fire exchanges the whole time. I'm bad at slow French, I'm hopeless when it's fast. So it was just exhausting, my mind straining to make some sort of pattern out of what they were saying. Couldn't tune it out.

Did you mean to say he's funny & understands how to make women cry?

Someone who can make you laugh is a constant delight.
Someone who has a constant need to get laughs has troubles so deep it's best to back off and let them work it out with a professional.
I like Mike and Anne's. Nice shot.

Hey everyone,

I have been worried about the guy because my initial thought was ... oh gosh, he's one of those clown types who feels deeply but covers it up with jokes and the woman he loves beyond reason is about to break up with him because SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW DEEP HE REALLY IS!!!

Did I ever mention that I tend to make everything into a Russian novel? No really, even the phone book.

Thanks for commenting, everyone! Until tomorrow...

I love this story. You could almost turn it into a poem. Beautiful photo, too.
