It's the first of the month, and that means Theme Day for participating City Daily Photo bloggers. This month's theme is Yellow. And what a perfect opportunity to highlight a local treasure.
While many visit South Pas to admire the historic architecture, others make the trek -- sometimes across many miles and enduring great hardship -- to experience the Great Saffron Structure. Purportedly built upon one of North America's most powerful energy centers, this metal grid has been the subject of both literature and song. Worshipers of many neo-Pagan religions have journeyed to the site for healing as well as goddess celebration. Scientists at JPL and Cal Tech have conducted experiments proving that the structure emits highly unstable alpha waves that have an ability to attract vintage automobiles to the area...
...or maybe it's just April Fools Day, and I'm in the mood to pull a few legs. After all, it was former race car driver Bobby Unser who said, "Yellow usually means it's not that serious."
I guess I could have gone all out and tried to convince you that this contemporary metal extension of an office building was really a little-known offshoot of the Arts and Crafts movement, but that would be too much of a challenge. Besides, I'm not brave enough to go that far. Guess you could call me yellow. (And definitely not that serious.)
Be sure to check out all the other fantastic (and far less smart-alecky) images from today's Theme Day photobloggers.

Sydney Daily Photo
Hee! Good April Fool's joke. I like the building - whatever its use may be.
Happy theme day.
Oh, for gosh sakes, Lori! You had me going at first. Shoulda known. Your writing is so good, though. I just got sucked right up. Very cool. The specificity of the JPL dudes was icing on the cake and the spoof finally dawned on me with the line about vintage cars. I guess Bob Crowes post was sort of April foolery, but yours was a real April Fools joke, and the first I've come across today. Very fun!

Ha! very funny. Love the commentary. And what a yellow!
I like the stark lines. The almost acidic green/blue of the sky suits that vivid yellow. Great geometry here. :~)
Hee hee! Imaginative and up to your high standards. Fun copy!
Very funny! Your posts are always a pleasure to read!
I love your post and your sense of humor. I must say that when I first started reading, my mind was busy trying to put the information into logical order and somewhere way back in my mind was this little voice saying...she must be joking!
In some parts of this country there are those folks who would call the color of these grids, yaller. I can't decide whether to make the trip for the healing properties or the Goddess Celebration.
APRIL FOOL!
your title had my April fool radar on alert.
but what a great image, all that saturated color. You could start a graphic novel!
Oh Lordy, Wayne will be all over this one today Laurie. Right up his alley.
Moi? I'm with DJ, it's all about the goddess celebration.
But... this structure IS built upon one of North America's most powerful energy centers... SouthPas!
And how eco-conscious to have constructed it from recycled girders from Ringo Starr's favorite sea-faring vessel.
Electrical banana
Is gonna be a sudden craze.
Electrical banana
Is bound to be the very next phase.
They call it Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow.
Yak: There's a Yellow Submarine building on the Gold Line as you head toward or out of Cypress Park station on the west side of the tracks. Maybe you've seen it.
Actually on the East side of the tracks.
Ha, I will not believe anything I read today.
My alarm went off this morning. I knew I wasn't going to keep sleeping due to snoring from the other side of the bed. I flipped my smartphone to browser and checked email quickly. My finger slipped and I ended up bringing up GoSP.
On the little screen I was trying valiantly through my blurry just awake eyes, to figure out where this structure was. I read along a bit, STILL confused. I got to the end of the paragraph about JPL and my next alarm went off again, interrupting my quest to determine location of the photo.
All morning, I've been trying to figure out where those yellow (or yaller) beams are in SoPas).
Finally, after a busy morning, I've sat down to catch up on a few blogs---and I get to read the rest of your entry.
Fer cryin' out loud!
As I explained to one friend, today, I'm the gullible one in the family---I *always* get taken on April 1. The rest of the year I'm the skeptic! Don't ask me to explain!
And yes, Yak is right, SoPas IS an energy center, how else to explain all this lovely energy posted here?
Off to slink into a corner and stop being so gullible today...sigh!
Mr. Earl: No, I haven't seen it... but the next time I'm in SouthPas I certainly will!
Only because I had a post that included yellow journalsim did I twig from the start that this was a fool. Otherwise I would quite happily believed this was a zinging new art installation. Art like beauty the eye of the beholder. Dazzling image.
Hope you saw Manila Daily Photo. You've got the same yellow and blue!
I'll see this as fact in a week or so in some magazine article. Isn't that how it works.
Bobby Unser makes a good point. In Vancouver drivers don't take yellow traffic lights very seriously.
My kind of image Laurie.
This has got to be the cleverest post for theme day, and I don't mean just the photo! LOL! Love those 'unstable alpha waves!' :D
Great yellow!
Yak - It's not in South Pas. Down near Cypress Park station.
Nice, crisp, bright yellow lines...Where is the April Fool's?
(GREAT job on this one, Laurie. You are so very authoratative (sp?) on all matters that we just happily go along. Loved the post.
Hey kids,
Welcome Mo and GreensboroDailyPhoto!
I can't resist an a prank on April Fools Day. (And neither can Altadenahiker... for those who saw her blog earlier today!)
Thanks for all the fun today, gang. Until tomorrow. And I promise ... no more jokes. At least for a while. :-)
