I don't know, Laurie, in that light it looks like the University of Texas Longhorns. On a sunny day, it may be a brighter orange, but it's just dark enough to be that ugly color of the 'horns.
I had the privilege to see one of the greatest college football games ever - the National Championship BCS title game in the Rose Bowl three years ago between my #1 Trojans and the the #2Longhorns. Unfortunately, the 'horns won in the last 26 seconds, but it was the best way for SC's winning streak to end - to the #2 team in an epic battle that will become a fixture on ESPN Classic.
I meant exactly what I said, Laurie. And the correct phrase is "Book them Horns" When asked after the game how I felt about USC losing out on their third national championship in a row, I could honestly say that the streak was going to end some day and it's better to have them lose to the #2 team in a hard fought game. The Horns were perfect. SC made a couple of mistakes and UT Quarterback Vince Young had one of the greatest individual performances of all time. I'd rather lose in a game like that than to a second rank team like. . .UCLA.
Dbw! "Ugly" you say? I'm not one to "Lock horns" over a sporting event but the Texas Longhorns have been my life's blood for as long as I can remember. My husband was on the coaching staff (swimming)at U.T. throughout his working career. To quote Laurie: She, Judy and I have burnt orange in our blood.
Sorry, DJ, but to a loyal Trojan, the burnt orange of UT is ugly. Your blood may be orange, but mine is cardinal in color. One of my best friends was raised in San Marcos. His great-great uncle was second in command in Sam Houston's army. After a stint in the Marine Corps and 25 years in LA where I met him, he returned to New Braunfels. I know him as Sam which is what he went by in LA. His real name is Austin. He now goes by Austin. When I asked why, his response was, "Boy, when you live in Texas and your name is Austin, you go by Austin." He owes me several bottles of wine over various LA sporting victories over Texas teams. I lost a bottle though on the Rose Bowl when UT beat USC. I called him from the stadium when SC went ahead. Needless-to-say, he called me back when the game was over.
I think LA, being out here in LA now, has less burnt orange than if she were still back down under in the south. Let's just say some of the orange should've burnt off over these years!
Besides, let's remember: USC, & admittedly ucla too, have more NCAA championships than any other school.
What is it about sports & politics & sports? The most controversial & important issues in the world!
Actually, UCLA has more NCAA championships than any other school, if you count men's and women's sports. Stanford is second and USC third. In men's sports, USC has the most, with UCLA second, and Stanford third. The Pac-10 dominates when it comes to NCAA titles.
Question? How did sports talk come into play while looking at a picture of a house? And, by the way, it's not the color of the uniform, but how you play the game. Let's go back to Yak's comment and move on to planting flower borders.
Don't worry, kids. Everyone gets a little excited when rooting for his or her team. And no topics are off limits here as long as everyone plays nice. :-)
The cashiers in the cafeteria at the Federal Building downtown wear different color shirts each day. Whenever they don't match, I give them a hard time. Thursday, is burnt orange day, and I tell them, "Oh, it's Texas Longhorn day." You have to hand it to Texas, they picked a unique color.
As the boys from Torrance put it:
So be true to your school Just like you would to your girl or guy Be true to your school And let your colors fly
Mister E, sports fans come up with all kinds of rationalizations for team colors. My favorite burnt orange one is the bumper sticker in Texas that says, "God is a Longhorn -- that's why the sunsets are burnt orange." Hee!
In December of 2007, after many years on the west side of Los Angeles (and at least a third of those years spent stuck in traffic on Pico Boulevard) my family settled into a happy little house in South Pasadena. This daily blog covered almost 5 years as I put down roots in my new home town -- and almost 5 more as I settled in and became a South Pas old-timer. Here it is...my time capsule of South Pasadena.

Broncos!
I kind of like it!
AHEM!!! AUBURN maybe? Where's the blue paint. I can fix that door up in a hurry.

Love the house. Itching to plant flower borders.
Why do all the good blue-hued blooms... Iris, violets, lilacs... prefer cooler climates?
And those staked plants along the sidewalk entry... are they... orange trees?
I remember that house! I say Tennessee for sure. I like how the trees sweep together to frame the porch. LOVELY.
Go Big Orange! Tennessee Vols for sure!

Oh Dbw... I'm certain you meant to say "fortunately" the horns won. Right? :-)
Hook em! (And that is NOT proper burnt orange. Judy, Dixie and I should know because I think we actually have it in our blood.)
Carry on, sports fans.
I love orange! Such a happy color! Except when the Tejas Longhorns come to town ... orange usually means a butt-whoopin' for most of us in the Big 12.
For some reason, we're not as fearful of Crimson - that snooty red belongs to both Sooners and Jawhawks.

I think Mr. Earl got this one right.
I agree with you - this is not like those other shades. The shade on this house is beautiful & energetic.
Hi kids,
I gotta hand this one to Mister E! Well played, sir. Well played.
Thanks for all the comments, everybody. Until tomorrow...

You should be a politician, Earl!
And, you sound like one too, Virg.
Sorry.
Where's Farmgirl to jump in about K State? :-)

Gosh, Dixie Jane, Laurie brought sports into the discussion when she posted the picture. And then it took off.
I don't believe politics belongs here - it's too divisive. I guess sports should be included in the off-limits topics.
