Something for Nothing

One of my home's previous owners planted these roses in the front yard. Despite my absolute neglect, continued bludgeoning from Little Bit's soccer ball and a most unseemly bit of abuse by a local tom cat, the roses bloom with a vigor unrivaled even by the most pampered of Huntington Garden's posies.

I figure, if a rose goes to all that trouble to show off, the least I can do is take its picture.

Roses are almost unrecognizable when fully open. I wish I could bury my nose right down to the center. It's almost like a 4 rowed pinwheel. :)

La Vie en Rose

Nobody can adequately describe a rose. Gertrude Stein said, "A rose is a rose is a rose" and Shakespeare said, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." That leaves us to "La Vie en Rose", looking at the world through rose colored glasses. (Thanks, Judy). But what has been proven? We love them for what they are, their beauty and sweet smell and that is all we need to know......
