While the Midwest literally collapsed under a winter storm yesterday, Southern California enjoyed one of the most gorgeous days in recent memory. It was 83 degrees, dry, breezy -- a tank top and flipflops kind of day. The kind of day that has been the subject of poem and song, the kind of day that made entire generations move west.Here, golden ginkos reach for the west sun. Who needs ornaments with this kind of holiday gold?

WOW...Thanks for bringing me my ginko fix! I especially LOVE the blue contrast...polarizing filter? Hopefully y'all will have another few beautiful days and when the leaves fall you can get the "carpets of gold"...looks like little pools of light spotted up and down the streets.
@Judy---you must be in the south...a friend from Florala, Alabama said his hometown was 28F this am too and boasted about having to put on a sweatshirt here to go out cuz it is ~55F and aiming at 65F!
What can I say? The golden frosted ginkos say it with a glance. We don't have ginkos here in Central Texas. Blue skies, yes. Such a beautiful combination. Cold, we are having. The green grass has turned brown but we are mostly spared the ravages of winter snow and ice. We get our ornaments from a cardinal perched on a green tree.
Heather: The colors instantly reminded me of Boise State - the blue, but Boise's other color is orange, so we'll need another tree for that.
You'll need a liquid amber for the Boise State colors, Mr. Earl. They can turn bright orange during the Fall.

Fun Fact (that maybe everybody knows but me): The gingko is the oldest species of tree on the planet.
