Homes, Sweet Homes...

Tudor and Craftsman make grand neighbors on this stretch of El Centro. I can never decide which one I love the most. Even on cloudy days, these cheerful homes shine.

(For a darker view of South Pas, check out my latest column and video at South Pasadena Patch. You all know how much I love night prowling...)

If I could move the Craftsman onto the nice green yard with the orange tree, I think that would be my choice...but the tudor does have the cool twisted brick chimney (I know that house well!) so points for that.

I've always loved the house with the turret and the spiral chimney.

You're right about how cheerful that green house is with it's complimentary red brick porch. The Tudor is quaint and I love the harlequin window mullions.

I found it, thank you.You should be making movies. What vision and beautiful writing and photography combined.

Is there a way to comment on South Pasadena Patch without suppliing an email address? I don't want to give out my work email.

Anon, as far as I know you have to supply an email address. You might email Patch and ask them about it. I've heard others mention the same thing.

Thank you for the kind words, you guys!

Heh! My family used to live in that green house back before it was green. We moved in after the Rauch family (Trader Joe's) moved to the east coast. Boy oh boy were we in for a surprise when the first Halloween came around. I guess they'd been big on Halloween and tikes, we had to make an extra candy run and we had people stopping by until after midnight!

It was a gorgeous cozy house to live in and the neighbors house is/was very charming as well for sure. <3

Welcome, Hatebear!

What a wonderful story! I will have to let the current owners know I heard from someone who used to live there.

I hear ya about Halloween. I'm writing my next column for Patch about Halloween in South Pas. It's pretty amazing how many trick or treaters show up along El Centro and the side streets. Madness!
