Stylish Cyclist

I like the sweater, but I can't begin to express how much I love those red shoes.

You, Ms. Laurie, have a darling pair of red shoes, as I remember. Litlle high heels with pointy toes.

BUT I can't help bringing up the beautiful film, The Red Shoes. It was based somewhat on the fairy tale by Hans Chtistian Andersen. I saw it as a child and it left a lasting impression on me. I saw it again not too long ago on video. Gorgeous...but not a good message to give to girl children.

Has anyone else seen it?

I have to applaud Nike (and the NBA) for making it totally cool and acceptable for men to wear red shoes!! The theme runs throughout, with the jacket and light as well. Terrific capture.(Of course the diagonal line connecting them too did not go unnoticed either :D)

Oh, you're by that cute restaurant. We have to eat there sometime...

The red shoes are fine, but what about the building behind the bicyclist? The Fremont Centre Theater is one of South Pasadena's treasures. A 99 seat theater housed in a former mortuary. It's owned by local residents James Reynolds and Lissa Laing Reynolds, two of the finest people in town. The performances have been award winning and attract audiences from all over. Ray Bradbury was there just a few weeks ago.

I love the way the cyclist is obeying the red "Don't Walk" light... that's the way cyclists roll in South Pas!

Shanna: I LOVE the red shoes... one of my favorites. Hmmmmmm... I also love "Raise the Red Lantern." Maybe I just love red!

Note to Self: Neither of the above films are self-esteem builders for young women...

This is such a great shot. It looks like you staged it with the red accents, red light, and those red shoes. Almost like a shot from an Almodovar film.

Yak: I think you see my point... Too bad she had to break her feet.

Thanks, you guys!

I remember reading the fairy tale The Red Shoes and thinking that of all the gruesome concoctions of those old stories that one HAD to be the worst as far as a terrible example for young girls! Well, that and the one where the girl who was turned into a swan had to sew sweaters for all 12 of her brothers in order to break the spell and the nettles burned and scarred her fingers. I think she had to marry a mean king, too. (These were bedtime stories?!)

I love this shot because it was one of those happy captures that I wasn't sure I could grab. The guy in the picture was booking it down the sidewalk and I only had one chance to snap. This was the one shot -- taken on auto with my point and shoot and cropped into a square. I'm just glad I got the red lights.

Til tomorrow, everyone...

Laurie: You should really see the movie. Like, really. It is, for one thing, sooo beautiful. Technicolor - the whole thing. And I remembered it from my childhood.

Ah! The corner of Fremont and El Centro, where west on El Centro takes you to Kaldi Coffee & Tea and east takes you to the Bank of America.

This is a fantastic blog, one that combines two of my loves: photography and South Pasadena. Keep up the great work!
