By day, you can't beat Ellen's for silkscreening, embroidery and promotional gear. (Just ask Occidental College, the Getty Museum, the Huntington Library, the Rose Bowl, the Armory, Art Center, Cal Tech, Trader Joes and the Norton Simon Museum -- they're all clients.) Ellen's has been a San Gabriel Valley favorite since 1978, with an in-house art department that puts competitors to shame and an online catalog that contains over 250,000 promotional items.
But by night, just look at that sublime noir silhouette...

Ellen Daigle is one of South Pasadena's treasures. Recognized as the Women Entrepeneur of the Year a few years ago, she has created a very successful business. And, she's one of the "go-to" people in town who can always be counted on to support good causes. And, she's got a great store that looks super at night.
This is a cool shot. I think all of those buildings on Mission look great at night.
You have a wonderful blog, Laurie!
Where is everyone today?
I like the way the street lamps look in this photo. I like all your night photos. I would have never thought of this place as a film noir setting but in this image it definitely seems like someone should be creeping around in there.
Mike: You asked where everyone is. I think they are over at Hiker's re-reading her last post for the umpteeth time.
Laurie: Very abstract. A square, three verticals. Make that four, including the street lamp. A row of dots...
I remember the elementary schools being customers of Ellen's (well, at least that's where Monterey Hills used to get their 5th grade class t-shirts:)
I like Ellen's T-Shirts! I have a St. Patty's day one.
I've never heard or seen this place. Must visit. Lord knows I could use a t-shirt.
Check out the wet ones. Great for washing the car!
Howdy folks!
Welcome Anon!
Yup, I'm still chuckling over Hiker's latest, too.
Til manana...
Oh, and thanks, DB, for the info on the Ellen behind Ellen's! I'll definitely have to do a follow up post on this fabulous business. Maybe even with a daytime photo! :-)
