I felt a little guilty hanging out at the top of this hill while the runner on the right huffed and puffed up from the bottom. People all over town are lacing up new sneakers and keeping those new year's resolutions. Me? I just take more pictures...

Great shot of the SG Valley from Alpha... keep up the great work and photo's.. it was nice to meet you Wednesday night at the council meeting.....
I would enjoy living in Mayberry and yes, I can hear the bird of happiness tweeting, Yak. We here, are struggling to withstand living in a deep freeze. It's just nice to know that places like this do exist.
When I don't get out in time to walk the trails in daylight, this is my after dark walk. It must have something to do with how safe I feel under the watchful eye of Police Chief Dan Watson's care.
Can't believe it, but I used to sprint up Alpha and a few other streets around town...back when the earth was cooling...when I was in high school and college.
Used to have a friend who lived almost where you were standing...a few scattered on Alpha...and a few on La Fremontia (how on EARTH I still remember the name of that street, I dunno).
such a clear day!
and lol on the mayberry/chief commentary. hope things settle down there in mayberry...one thing the council seems to forget, don't get the natives (or new natives) riled up.
It's only in retrospect that I realize how blessed I was to grow up in the Altos...what views we had. My parents still live up there, as do my cousins (on Alpha actually...the black mailbox to the left belongs to them!). Alpha is one steep climb, and I must burn at least 1/8 of a tank of gas to go up every time. And like most roads in Monterey Hills, it's also super curvy, and people who visit residents up there get lost all the time while trying to get out. Can't count the number of times a car has stopped in front of our house to say, "how do we get out of here?"
Like Trish, many of my old friends (or at least their parents!) still live on these blocks. Quite a few seniors and baby boomers live up there...their kids have grown, but they've stayed kaput:)
Welcome Anonymous! I'm glad I met you, too! Though, I don't know which you it is -- I met several really great people at the council meeting.
I'm working on a post with an update later this week about our situation regarding Chief Watson. More and more South Pas residents are learning about this and want to do everything possible to KEEP THE CHIEF! I expect that this story will break into bigger Los Angeles media venues soon.
Alex, I just love driving around the hills. When we moved to this side of town, Jon gave me a GPS for the car so I could explore to my heart's content and never worry about trying to figure out how to get back! (When you drive around a lot with a toddler, it's nice to be able to find your way home...) I can now say I know those hills as well as any South Pas native. And yes, Alpha is a steep one! I grew up in an area of Austin that was very similar. People always got lost coming to visit.
Thanks for the comments, everyone. Until tomorrow...
In December of 2007, after many years on the west side of Los Angeles (and at least a third of those years spent stuck in traffic on Pico Boulevard) my family settled into a happy little house in South Pasadena. This daily blog covered almost 5 years as I put down roots in my new home town -- and almost 5 more as I settled in and became a South Pas old-timer. Here it is...my time capsule of South Pasadena.

Thank you Charlie's Coffee House for hosting my photo exhibit, South Pas: Observed. From October 2011 through January 2012 my pictures graced the walls of the best place in town to get a cup of coffee!

Heh, we can see the mountains again!! I love that street.
I never was a runner. Remember when they called it jogging? I couldn't even do it in my 20's, much less now. HAHA
Keep up the good work, LA!!
Taking more photos...hmm, now that is a resolution I could probably keep - and I sure look forward to the ones you take!
I do love this view... and I love South Pas and I love California... can anybody hear the bird of happiness tweeting?
Beautiful shot of Mayberry LA!!!

Purdy.
(It's freezing in Texas? Wow.)

I'm learning that I live in Mayberry Chicago.
Laurie: Are you suggesting that it's downhill from here?

Glory shot!
