Who needs a distraction?

After smelling woodsmoke for days on end, barbecue seemed like a natural choice. And nothing beats Gus's for great barbecue. I can't comprehend 150,000 acres of burning forest ... but brisket and baked beans? No problem!

Love the painting.

Ok, I'll have an order of bbq sliders, some coleslaw and whatever else you recommend. :~)

Any photo featuring a shirt with the SF 49ers' five Superbowl rings must be good!

On a related note, there was an article in the LA Times sports section yesterday about Joe Montana's younger son, who tried to walk on as QB at Notre Dame, now realizing that he needs more experience before playing for a Division 1 school. He's now enrolled at Pasadena City College and will be playing this season. If you go to one of their games, there's a good chance that Joe will be there!

Ha! you and me both. It's like I was obsessing (still am) and just had to think of something else for a few minutes.

Ha! You and Petrea gave us a shot in the arm. Good girl.

I really don't like these fires (that one glimpse of the flames destroying "my" mountains when I went home to visit last weekend was enough), but I am sorry that I have been present on your blog lately. This post, with "distraction" in the title, brought me back--I'm so glad that it did!

I enjoy your humor.

Laurie... as a Southern Girl you can be the judge.. is the chicken-fried steak at Gus's REAL chicken-fried steak???

As for me... Good BBQ always leads astray my plans to go vegetarian.

Yak - I'm a sucker for chicken-fried steak, but get a load of chicken-fried bacon:

Correction: Joe Montana's older son is going to PCC. His younger son, still in high school has verbally committed to University of Washington for next year.

We ate at Gus's for the first time a couple of weeks ago. What great tasting food - and without garlic!!!! (I'm allergic).
The red beans and rice are my favorite. The brick chicken is great and I even got some healthy fresh peas and carrots.

Hi folks,

Earl, chicken fried bacon is right up there with deep fried snickers bars...

Virg, I'm down for a good pork Q, too!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Until tomorrow...

Cool shot of the interior, and I love the painting of Robert Johnson, one smokin' guitar player. (sorry couldn't resist)
When I heard yesterday that the Station fire was caused by arson it was like a flash back to the San Diego fiasco. I've been thinking of you all in the smoke red sun down there.

This particular picture reminds me of the good old days! My grandfather used to take me our local tequila shop with exactly the same ambiance as this one! Thanks!
