New Tradition

It's the Allee household's annual turkey cookie baking time again! Last year, Little Bit added a peacock cookie to the flock. This year she asked if they could all be peacock cookies.

"Mommy," she said. "There aren't any turkeys walking around South Pasadena. What do turkeys have to do with anything?"

Yeah, mom, what DO turkeys have to do with anything?

I can just hear her.

I hope you have green and blue frosting!!!

That's just silly!

Peacocks, not turkeys. Yes!

Peacock cookies are a wonderful idea and the start of a new tradition. While you're at it, why don't you cook a peacock for Thanksgiving dinner instead of a turkey. As Lil Bit says, there are no turkeys in South Pasadena, but plenty of peacocks, and removing some of them would make some residents very happy. Think of all the new traditions that would begin. The president could pardon a peacock instead of a turkey. Thanksgiving decorations would be peacock feathers instead of horns of plenty. And, I understand that peacock tastes just like chicken.

On Thanksgiving day,
a peacock ran away.
They'll make a cookie out of me,
so I will not stay!

Ahhhh...tell her peacocks are for decoration, turkeys are for eating!!!

She's an extremely intelligent and sensible little girl. (love the colors in this shot.)

DB, rest assured, I will NOT be sharing your idea with Little Bit!

db...lol!

for that matter, how about ostrich? considering SoPas' history!

and while we're at it, can we do something about the parrots too?

just don't try to explain tofurkey to Lil Bit!

There is no rational explanation for Tofurkey, Tash!!!

Instead of Turducken (chicken stuffed in a duck stuffed in a turkey), how about Ospeakey (turkey stuffed in a peacock stuffed in an ostrich). Think of what you could do with all the plucked feathers, and you could probably feed half the homeless in Los Angeles with the leftovers. This could be the start of something!

A Thanksgiving peacock? Such beautiful colors. What a fun new Allee tradition. I'm thinking of you and missing you as I celebrate with 2/3rds of my family. Shanna and Jim are here. I've still got the crud and have taken more pills than I ever wanted. Bless Judy for doing the honors. I remember all of those days prior to the feast, taking three days to do Thanksgiving dinner and eating half of the cornbread dressing before it made it to the oven. But oh, those yams and marshmallows. I always played a tune on them with a knife when they came out of the oven. And we didn't even have green bean casserole. Make it a happy eat too much day and think of us thinking of you. With love from your family in Texas where the weather is more suitable for bikinis today. But tomorrow all of that will change and we will go from AC to a fire in the fireplace. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We do have turkeys in South Pasadena. End of that subject.

Check out on google and youtube the Cherumple Cake consisting of a cherry pie, pumpkin pie, and an apple pie, baked into cake and layered and frosted. Insane.

Just the other day I came up with a spam turducken. Make a tunnel in a bratwurst, put a hot dog in it. Make a tunnel in a spam loaf, put the stuffed bratwurst in it. Baste.

Are you still hungry?

Earl and DB, you guys are on a tandem roll today! hahahahaha about both of your new combo dishes. :-)

Turkey and peacock cookies: done. Kitchen mess? Frightening.

Mister Earl said...

We're on a roll today, but the turkey will be on a roll Friday.

Actually, the cake you want to look up is Cherpumple.

These combo names are better than the ones magazines come up with for famous couples.

Mister Earl said...

Yeah. I mean what could be wrong with a food whose first four letters are t-u-r-d?

Have another slice of ospeakey!

My first thought for naming my new turkey-peacock-ostrich dish was to name it Oscockey, but I chose not to - that is until Mr. Earl pointed out that Turducken starts with turd.

Petrea Burchard said...

Peacocks! Of course.

Earl and db, you guys are making me howl over here! Now all we have to do is name Earl's Spam turducken. Splat? Or we could call it "jutsmog." That's my WV.

Dixie Jane, feel better and give my love to Shanna et al.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

I dare somebody to take Earl's Spratdog (Jutsmog?) as their contribution to whatever feast they're enjoying on Thanksgiving tomorrow. Seriously. I'll give you a dollar.

Saturday Night Live had a skit a few years ago about a donut wrapped in a taco wrapped in a burrito wrapped in a pizza deep fried, etc, etc, etc...

DB... I thought Ospeakey was funny but I spewed my drink over Oscockey. I say we all put together a holiday cookbook. (This after Karin's idea about the holiday newsletter blogathon, of course.)

I've GOT it! The perfect South Pasadena holiday dish: a parrot stuffed in a squirrel stuffed in a skunk stuffed in a peacock. It's all local, after all, perfectly in keeping with the original Thanksgiving tradition. We could call it a Parrelunkcock.

Don't get any ideas, anyone. I'm trademarking THAT genius idea...

Hilda said...

Hahaha! Oh I love your Little Bit! Handsome peacock there too. Absolutely perfect with those front steps.

Petrea Burchard said...

Anybody who takes a Parrelunkcock to Thanksgiving dinner--I'll give you TWO dollars.

Mister Earl said...

LOL!!! Everyone!

I was trying to name my spam thing. Spam - Bratwurst - Hot Dog. Spratdog?
