Suburban Citadel

Monterey Hills is a time capsule of mid century through eighties architecture -- a great counterpoint to all of the classic Craftsman, Victorian, Tudor and Spanish homes found around the rest of town. In fact, if I didn't already know that the Brady Bunch house was in Studio City, I would swear you could find it somewhere in the Altos.

I've heard of a man's home being his castle but this place seems more like a fortress. (A 1960s fortress where the guys from Dragnet might pull up for a stakeout...) Even so, I just love the way those beams cast sharp, pretty shadows in the afternoon sunlight.

Pretty neat landscaping, too! It would be interesting to peek inside. The square-ness of it reminds me of the fake house on Mtn. Rushmore in the movie "North by Northwest"!

Alice is sweeping out the garage!!

I love the simplicity of this. The undulating hedge and clouds add a nice bit of curve to the angular house.

My first thought was that of a restaurant - maybe a Denny's, which could create an interesting play on on your word "stakeout"... "Steak out".

ok L---you may have stumped me...I'm not recognizing this house. Have a few clues as to where it might be, but I'm just not placing the house. It may just be the angle, because the house behind looks vaguely familiar, as do the bushes.

Trish, it's at the intersection of Camino Lindo and Camino Verde!

I have always liked this house. You present it perfectly in this shot. How did you choreograph those cllouds so well?

Thanks Alex---that was one of my thoughts, but I think the shadows threw me off. Two friends used to live on either side of this house...many years ago.

I love the DENNY"S idea. I'll have a Patty Melt on the terrace. Enlarged to see those shadows. Yep, they're mighty fine!

THanks, all!
