Or bats?

I'll admit, I always look up at the belfry of St. James Church to see if I can spot Quasimodo or Scottie Ferguson lurking on those mysterious wooden stairs.

I've seen too many movies.

Love both these movies and yes, belltowers get me thinking about them too.

Oh indeed Quasimodo!! Oh wait... Vertigo comes to mind as well. I saw that movie when I was little and it scared the living daylights out of me. Kim Novack - what a beauty. Jimmy Stewart - one of my favorites of all time.

Visually, I really like the angular bell tower softened by the reaching tree branches. Bats? naaaah

Losing (track of) your religions? I think that's St. James Episcopal on Monterey and Fremont. Holy Family is further south on Fremont. (Nicely framed photo!)

Losing Your Religion?

Belfry: When I was a kid there was an exterminator commercial and they had this jingle "Bats in you belfy? Mice in your rice? Cockroaches in your kitchen? None of that's nice?"

The stonework is gorgeous! Perfect in black and white.

HA HA Mr E - I love the jingle.

Ah, Mr. E you are right. I spaced out on this post. It IS St. James. Oops.

ROTFLMAO...The good folks of St James Episcopal would NOT take well to being confused with Holy Family Catholic...it is a long running feud.

There were always rumors when I was a child (yep, here I go again). That ritual sacrifice (everyone but Mr Earl read the first half of your Bible), took place in the bell tower. At one point, when the sanctuary was still open most of the time, there WERE dead chickens left on the altar. A Reverend was thought to have committed these acts (proven ~25 years ago? during a period of scandal). But no one was allowed in the bell tower, to my knowledge, other than the Sexton. This of course, lead to more rumors.

Even having spent a number of years running around St James, I'm not sure I could lead you to the access for the bell tower. Those ladders in the tower look as old as the church...am not sure I'd want to use them to service the bells. The bells WERE in use into the 1980's, via a remote control garage door opener type clicker.

But...I like your concept better...bats...Quasimodo...humnn, certainly sounds plausible!

I loved that video!!! I couldn't get any sound to come on, but it was great visually!

I too like Vertigo, especially the scenes from old SF, but I can never quite get over the dummy pitching head-first off the tower. Hitchcock always was more about story than special effects.

The chocolate syrup splattering in the bathtub in Psycho was pretty creepy as far as special effects go, but that's an exception. The dummy off the tower in Vertigo really is cheesy!
