So, I was wandering around in the hills the other day, hoping to discover something interesting to photograph. I happened upon this scene -- teal stucco, what looks like fossilized topiary -- and I thought, well, it's just not quite right, it needs something else...
Then the bird landed. Snap! Et, voila...

Sometimes it's just about being at the right place at the right time.
Fossilized topiary?? First time I've seen or heard of such a thing. Kinda funky-looking.
Yeah, I spotted that bird immediately and he truly is the icing on the cake. What an odd tree. What is that??
I agree with you and Judy; the bird makes it.
Definitely unique!!! And soooo So Pas!!!
What I want to know is... what is that bird looking at, with his little head twisted into a right angle to his body?
There is something out of frame... something coming... UH-OH! Will the little bird fly away before he is fossilized too? AAIIIEEEE! It's the curse of the Zombie Topiary!
I suppose if you don't water a topiary, you spend less time trimming. Brilliant!
I think the Farmgirl has got it right. If you let the topiary die, you not only don't have to trim it, you also don't waste water. Brilliant!
That would be a fauxpiary...
Fauxpiary!!!!!! Anton, you're a genius.
Hey gang! Thanks for joining in on today's weird photo. I just love that old dead tree -- or almost dead tree -- still pruned to precision and still visited by birds. I really think I must do an honest-to-goodness series on the topiary of South Pas.
I appreciate the kind words and cool comments, everyone. Until tomorrow!
Fauxpiary is great!!
But I see a tug-of-war between two kids pulling in opposite directions at poor Mom who now has a headache in both heads!
