Sunny Forecast

Thunderstorms threw big, wet tantrums yesterday before retreating into a swirling, temperamental sky. I grabbed this shot out of my window as I drove down Huntington, coming back from the grocery store with my four bags of Thanksgiving bounty. Rain is such a blessing after so many dry months. During times of drought, it seems that Southern California -- this fragile desert paradise --might just evaporate into a mirage. But today, with its thirst quenched -- and every rose bush gleaming with raindrops -- it is rejuvenated. Thanks, rain!

There is so much to be grateful for today ... Thanksgiving groceries, the rain, the photogenic sky, the sweet joy of family, the ability to wax rhapsodic, or to complain, the tenacity of progress, the fact that humor almost always trumps melancholia, the sheer enormity of human potential and capacity for charity, the unwavering truth that light follows darkness and the knowledge that no matter how scary or uncertain life is -- it's also silly and stubborn and rooted in grace.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. The glass is most definitely half full. And after the rain, maybe even a little more than half.

The pure blue of a clean sky is never more beautiful than when emerging from a bank of dark clouds... because, as your photo illustrates, the storm also is beautiful.

Gorgeous shot, gorgeous post, and something even better than turkey... food for thought.

Thank you, Laurie!!!

Wondrous words for all of us but especially for those of us lucky enough to live right here in the US of A! perfectly said. Yes, humor does trump melancholia and I need to remember that when I bemoan the fact that I had to leave Paris! I am thankful for your friendship as well my friend Laurie!

Your beautiful picture almost made me think that maybe I can paint again. That cerulean sky with puffs of white clouds. A perfect shot. Your words brought me to tears. Your grandmother would be proud, the one who passed around the writing gene. The only thing that could make it more perfect is my being with all of you. But I do remember Thanksgivings past and they are stored in my memory bank. I hope you have a fine day and eat lots of goodies. My love to all the family.

Thanksgiving has always intrigued me. It's stoo celebrated with gusto and genuine well meaning and pride, whereas in the UK we would not enter into the spirit so well. What I mean is we would skulk, and be so half hearted. Dramatic aqau sky. well sihes to all on your special day.
