Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

These tidy benches face west from the shoulder of Arroyo Drive. If you look down and over the wall, you'll get a fantastic bird's eye view of the South Pasadena Skate Park. (If you turn completely around and look across the street, you'll see this.) I often spot a group of high school kids hanging out here in the afternoon when I'm fairly certain they're supposed to be in class. It's a nice sunny spot with a killer view. Hey, who uses algebra in real life anyway?

(And for those of you scratching your head over my post title -- I'm just making a smart-aleck reference to the world's best argument for skipping school.)

Sometimes those skaters are older than they look. 6^) But then, we all deserve a day off once in a while.

En France aussi, nous "bullons" pour ne pas aller à l'école...

%%%%%%%%%%% I'll be hearing Ben Stein's voice resonating in my head all day now. Love it - as usual - the lines and the shadows. I love long shadows - they taking on a life of their own like they are walking away or trying to stretch from the subject to which they are permanently attached. So many repeating patterns and that hint of implied roundness of the top of the trash bin, in combination with mostly vertical and horizontals, and all of their right angles. NICE!

I like the benches. The black and white really adds to the mood of the photo. A scene where something is just waiting to happen.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off....a favorite movie of mine. Matthew Broderick will always be Ferris in my eyes....sorry Matthew. Love the photo, Laurie...and the black & white.

Anyone? anyone?
Well I love this BW. It's running a close second to the one I want. Good job and I echo everything Jutilda said. She's smarter about all this photography stuff than I am.

Oops forgot,
Get yourself down here girl and I will throw some baby spare ribs on my orange smoker for you. They are divine. Oh, and I make a mean potato salad too. :)

High school kids are like 'the worst' man. I know, I used to be one.

What song did Ferris Bueller sing or pretend to sing, on the float? Was it Twist and Shout?

Ok, I was the one scratching my head and why? I love that movie, why didn't I think of it?
Nice photo in black and white. My son is always bugging me to take him to the skate park but it mostly scares me!

I think we have a winner! The geometry and symetry in this are startling. As for the light, don't get me started. A masterpiece. I am so sad. I got the title straight away. Can you believe I still watch that film on lazy days. The most intelligent movie aimed at teenagers, therefore wasted on them.

Love it. A great movie.

Hi kids!

Elaine, good point! :-)

Thanks, Halcyon!

Webradio, naturellement! Il est universel...

Jutilda, will you please teach a class on photography?! I love your intepretation of images.

Virginia, I simply must make potato salad this weekend. See what you've started?

Altadena, that still makes me laugh.

Wayne, it was Twist and Shout. And what a great scene, huh?

Tanya, I hear you. My daughter is only 3 and she keeps saying all she wants is a skateboard. If I ask her what she dreamed about the night before she'll usually say "I dreamed I got a skateboard." Heaven help me...

Hope, Ferris is one of my favorite movies, too.

Babooshka, THANK YOU!

Ben, me too!

Thanks again, everyone. See you tomorrow...

I too would love to sit here and enjoy a time of my own (prolly with a camera and a book) if I were here ... :) It looks peaceful and with the bird-eye view of the skateboard park, who (photographers) can resists it? :)

Sometimes you just need a day as Ferris Bueller had.

Those benches are memorial benches and have names on them of people we knew back in the good old days...
