Night Light

"Photography, as we all know, is not real," Arnold Newman once said. "It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world."

Which is exactly what I was doing here, once again, as I lurked around the library late at night.

This shot looks just like it's come out of a film noir! I expect Humphrey Bogart to come along in a trench coat and a trilby smoking a cigar or something!

Well I have an award for you! You can pick it up at http://jamjarsuperstar.blogspot.com so come on down and claim it love!
Ciao

Laurie, are you registered with the SPPD? Did they issue you a nightime lurking pass?

Very dramatic - and that quote is great. (I'll be googling "Arnold Newman" in about 5 seconds.)

It looks so mysterious and film noirish.

You're going to get a reputation around that library. Your photo certainly sets a stage.

Laurie, you've hit the monochrome jackpot...again. Bravo!

If you need to lurk, thats a great place to do it.

Raymond Chandler could have used this shot. You can just here Sam Spade, light the cigarette and get the girl. My kind of private world.

Lurk who's outside taking pictures again. Why it is Laurie! Who else tiptoes in the dark looking for that special shot near the hallowed walls of our library. What is it about the library? I know. It is a magnet inside called books. Laurie loves books.

DJ, I love books too - collecting, not reading!

L, if you need to lurk in the late darkness on the edge of town, when no self-respecting person would be found, you would be much safer in SouthPas with a guard Dog at your side.

But, it's always worth de risk you take on our behalf for these beautifully dark pics. Hard 2 believe, but this is 1 of your better b/w's.

Remember, we gotta get some pics of the cafe/food over at the Fremont CT.

GOD this may be my fav yet. Straight out of a noir film. Love the flares from the lights on the lamp posts and the reflection on the sidewalk. Look at all of the vertical lines!! WOW

Laurie, I think you're a prime candidate for a perfume called In the Library! I used to work in a bookstore, and one occupational hazard was dry hands and cuticles. Remember to use your lotion.

Hi all!

Thanks for so many nice comments! I'm thrilled that you'll let me keep lurking and snapping photos. Uselaine, in the Library perfume!? Too fabulous!

See you round the stacks, kids. Oh, and back here tomorrow as usual...

Man oh man, I really miss South Pasadena. It sure puts Chicago to shame.
