About bathroom walls...When Dick and I were in grad school at the Univ. of Iowa - he in the Writer's Workshop - the bathroom walls were alive with graffiti. I remember especially at Kenny's Bar ( there were not many places to go in Iowa City, but that was a real spot). Such CREATIVE graffiti.
... i think it's great, and thank you, for your observation of "the words of the prophets" which i find very accurate; what an awesome musical link, too! Reminded me of a line in a poem i wrote coming home from Long Beach on the Blue Line years ago: "... our bible rewritten daily/ in sacred multicolored aerosol glyphs/ (but no one's listening to these prophets)" Anyway, thanks again ... and, no, we do not have enough subways in southern california.
I agree with hugO- in reference to the Simon and Garfunkel song "the words of the profits are written on the subway walls."
One of my favorites is still the collaborative words of two, written in the girls' bathroom at a dorm at Texas Tech University. In green marker were the words: Jesus Saves and in black were added At First National Bank of Lubbock.
In December of 2007, after many years on the west side of Los Angeles (and at least a third of those years spent stuck in traffic on Pico Boulevard) my family settled into a happy little house in South Pasadena. This daily blog covered almost 5 years as I put down roots in my new home town -- and almost 5 more as I settled in and became a South Pas old-timer. Here it is...my time capsule of South Pasadena.
