South Pas has always struck me as such a technicolor city. Lately, though, I've enjoyed revisiting familiar locations with an eye toward black and white. It definitely changes the tone of things. In fact, in this shot our happy little Eddie Park seems a bit too austere. (Quick! Somebody kick a red ball out there into the lawn!)

Eddie Park: Monochrome

Looks a bit spooky.
You know how everything reminds me of a song - "My Old Kentucky Home" was what popped into my early morning thought process. If it weren't for the more heavy duty swing set, it might surely still look like someone's homestead from a bigone era. I so appreciate your black and white take on things. Being awash with color is great, but when you take it down to gray scale, then you start to appreciate the shapes and nuances between light and shadow. Well done my dear.

I like the way it looks in black and white.
When I attended my first South Pasadena Council meeting in early 2002, the big item on the agenda was a request from the Girl Scouts to use the Eddy Park House for more hours each month. The Eddy family donated the house and surrounding land to the City for a park many years ago and several organizations use the house for meetings. A number of neighbors were opposed to the increased usage due to concerns about traffic and noise.
During public comment on the item, a number of Scouts and their parents spoke of the need for more hours each month. Several residents respectfully explained their concerns over park usage. When the public comment ended after nearly an hour, Mayor David Rose said, "Let's put things in perspective. We're talking about a problem in a park. But we're not talking about gang activity, graffiti, or drive-by shootings, so this isn't so bad."
That's when I knew I was going to enjoy working in South Pasadena.

I'm coming back to this again. I just love it. Such a setting for a movie along the lines of To Kill a Mockingbird, or something like that.
