With a Cherry on Top
I've raved about Fair Oaks Pharmacy before, but allow me to repeat myself. On a hot summer day there is nothing quite like bellying up to the counter of an old fashioned soda fountain for a cherry coke or -- better yet -- a caramel-slathered chocolate sundae. (Get The Raymond. It has both hot fudge and caramel. Yeah, baby!)

Other than their modern ware, this is straight out of an old movie. Love the hexagonal tile and the rounded back chairs!!! Is Elvis or Buddy Holly playing on the jukebox?
Nice shot. South Pasadena is a time machine!
Here's some more to the story. The previous owners renovated the store. They searched for and found a complete soda fountain in Missouri. The seller wouldn't sell it in pieces. So, the owners bought and shipped the counter, stools, and traditional soda making machines. They sold the business about 4 years ago to the current operators.
WV: grushef - the sound made when making a genuine ice cream soda as the soda comes out of the spout.
DBdubya, thanks for yet another bit of SoPas history!
And to all the folks who emailed me to correct my spelling in yesterday's headline: it was just a play on words for window peaks and peeking into windows. See yesterday's comments!
Though, I'm seriously impressed with the level of grammar/spelling interest exhibited by my readers.
I need a cherry phosphate!
:-)
I like the Cherry on Top in Pasadena.
This really does look like a shot from the past. Nice! Fair Oaks Pharmacy also makes some good sandwiches.
Caramel with hot fudge???? What a way to ruin a perfectly wonderful hot fudge sunday!!! Chocoholics unite!!! Say no to Caramel!!!!
It isn't just the sweets. They have great Chicago-style dogs, and my favorite chili fries.
Even better chili fries than Hi Life? Ohhhh, I did NOT need to know that! :-)
Great pic, this place looks amazing. Right out of a film. Carla
