Overcast

Think the greater Los Angeles area is always sunny? Not this time of year. Welcome to what locals call "June Gloom" -- a few weeks of drearily grey weather worthy of a moody refrain by a Seattle grunge band.

It will all boil off soon in the approaching summer heat but for now... sigh. (At least the jacarandas are blooming!)

Like a sentinel standing guard against the clouds. I love silhouettes. :~)

The thunderstorm was quite dramatic in these thar hills.

Someone wrote a poem with this line that I love: "And the thunder sounds like something remembering something."

June Gloom you say. We are liable to have it here most anytime of year.....and welcome it during the intense heat of August into September when I always dream of the ocean breeze. You remember. You lived here. Only the bugs like it. But it can be a nice time to sit cozy with a cup of coffee.

I've never heard of the June Gloom. It's been 80º+ with clear skies here for the last few days. I really don't want it to get any hotter than that.

I know, I'm not a fan of this of-late weather, either...

(Your title reminded me of classical guitarist Andrew York's composition "Sunday Morning Overcast.")

(By the way, I really loved your jacaranda photo yesterday!)

Thanks, everyone!

It's another late night for me, so I'll catch up with all of you tomorrow. Until then...

June Gloom isn't very exciting, but I just remind myself of the blazing summer heat on the way and it doesn't seem so bad.
