Everything is (finally) Illuminated

Don't worry. I'm not going to make a series out of random poles in the ground. But I just had to show that even dirt looks pretty ... when the sun is out! Just look at those shadows! That contrast! The golden gleam reflecting off the leaves in the enormous refuse pile!

Okay, so I got carried away. South Pas had a reprieve from the recent bleak weather and it made me a little bit loopy.

Even a pile of manure would look lovely after days of gray and mist. I came home to 100 degrees. YIKES

I like how the shot is divided in half, with the inert on the right and the human on the left. Almost a natural diptych.

I turned my car around in that very place the other night after I warned a lady with a stroller that she was heading for an errant pit bull that the owners were trying to get back on its leash. I also used my car to block the dog from heading toward the lady until she had time to get further away.

The pile seems to be mulch that some people are using to landscape the hillside that runs down from the baseball diamond. I've fetched many a baseball out of that lot.

Years ago, police cars used to hang out there, hiding in wait for speeders, but I haven't seen it used for that purpose in a long time.

That little lot has always intrigued me.

I love the lone figure on the left, heading for the unknown space outside the frame. Where is he going and why? This figure animates an otherwise static shot and makes the image snap, crackle and pop... OK, I haven't had breakfast yet, but I still love the shot!

Good job protecting that woman and child, Mr. Earl. Perhaps the guy crossing the street is avoiding the same dog that's still running free.

Good for you Earl.

Ain't that the truth Laurie? Nevertheless, I'd like to get my hands on that mulch. Hmmm.

That is some beautiful mulch. I wouldn't mind a pile of that either.

Good observations, everyone. I think the combination of colors is gorgeous - the rusty red with the grey/blue and off white and pale blues on the left. I can imagine a textile designer using the colors for the palette of some cloth.
Nice comment on the composition, Judy.
