South Pas Up Close #3

South Pas is known for a variety of majestic heritage trees. They provide a beautiful fairy tale canopy above ... and some down-to-earth cracked sidewalks and root-clogged pipes below. The standing water here is caused by a root elevating part of a street near a drainage duct. I find a kind of happy symmetry in the fact that it reflects the leaves above. (Of course, I think all things-- even puddles -- look pretty under the glow of a streetlamp at night.)

Not until I read your description, did I realize it wasn't a crack, but indeed a reflection. Of course, looking at the larger version, I can see it but with the smaller one, I thought it was a shadowy night shot of a crack in the sidewalk. Maybe there's some kind of symbolism there. In the small version, the leaves almost blend together, making it look like a vein of fool's gold. Maybe South Pas' streets are paved with gold and only a fool cannot see that. :~)

catching up on your posts - I see that golden streetlight theme rising up, and it is good.

I thought it was a gigantic strike-thrust earthquake crack... but only because, during the earthquake last night, I made the assumption that I was having a mini-stroke and spent the entire evening feeling dizzy and incapacitated... until I turned on the 10 pm news.

Hypochondria is a wonderful way to avoid boredom. My epitaph should be: "I told you I was sick!"

I say Petrea & Laurie were drinking from the same bottle. Neither felt it. It was a good solid THUMP followed by a wiggle-wiggle. (Nice textures here!)

That's a beautiful shot of the coast in the evening, with the golden rays of the sun resting upon the water!

I always learn sumthing new....

Actually, what your are looking at is South Pasadena's version of speed humps. A low tech, low price, and environmentally friendly way of slowing speeding motorists.

I adore cracked pavements and puddles. So much potential. They do all the hard work for you. The gold/brown/yelllow tones adds such a firey inviting feel.

DB - They often call me Speedo, but my real name is Mister Earl.

Those bump things in the street... I think they are for testing your shock absorbers and for practicing your acceleration and braking.

Bet it's the shadow of a Camphor tree.

Before I enlarged the photo I thought it was a view over the sea at sunset, with that beautiful golden reflection!! Anyway, a beautiful photo, Laurie!!

Hey everybody,

I didn't realize we had an earthquake last night. This is a sure sign that after almost 21 years here, I'm finally a Southern California native! (My hubby and daughter didn't notice, either.)

I realize that this does kind of look like a crack in the street... but Elaine picked up on what I thought it was: the portal to middle earth!

(And yes, ever-observant Pasadena Adjacent, it is a camphor tree in the reflection.)

DBDubya, I love the idea that these street irregularities are nature's speed humps! As a mom, I'd personally like everyone to drive slow around these streets. (If my 25 year old self could hear that, she would have sped away in disbelief in her old Alfa convertible...)

Thanks for taking the time to look at my photo today. I like studying the little details around here that are right under our feet. (In this case: literally!)

Til tomorrow...
