Night Prowling

During the day, Mission Station bustles with the chatter of busy people getting somewhere or going back. But at night it's a study in hushed inactivity, silence broken only by an approaching train or a lurking photographer...

I like the way footsteps sound on the platform when the rest of the town has tucked in to sleep. Like Arthur Symons once wrote,

The night was very still; above, below,
No sound, no breath, no change in anything;
Only, across the squares of damp lit street,
Shooting a mocking double from his feet,
With vague uncertain steps went to and fro
A solitary shadow wandering.

Oh...that looks like the set of a Hitchcock film. Excellent photo.

y favourie night prowler. You got be at the title. Lots of spacious shots on the potal today. This is again to over use the(my) word cinematic. Brief Encounter, would be my film choice for this scene

Another slightly eerie night shot from LA.

I love the association of this great shot with the poem, and the way your comment about the sound of footsteps on the platform made the entire scene come alive.

Your work continues to reflect personal depth and dimension.

This is a great photo. Could be the setting for a murder mystery ... that reminds me ... I was very intrigued with your post awhile back about the Black Dalhia murdered possibly being from South Pasadena ... yikes!

Oh, I love "a solitary shadow wandering." That is fabulous. This is so you. I adore this Brassai-esque type of night photography with the blurred lights and the perfect leading line of the track sending our eye from forward to aft.

Perfect pairing of poem and picture.

You're so good with poetry. It was my major in college (Rhetoric - there are a lot of jobs in Rhetoric) and I retain nothing. Nothing! Well, a couple of lines, but I couldn't tell you who wrote them.

I'm late checking in today. I answered your Craftsman challenge in today's post. Everything but the porch...

I tried too, Laurie. Maybe I'll let it go at that...

What are you doing down there right beside the track, young lady?!

Another beautiful, dreamy night shot, Laurie.

I'm having a fun time visiting those who answered your Craftsman Challenge! Love those porches!

A wonderful pairing of image and text!

The thought in the poem is exactly what I felt driving around while going home after dinner last night. The deep perspective in relation to the picture plane are right on. And the wedging in of the white shape into the dark space work in an abstract manner. The sounds you invoke are most evocative.

Howdy everyone!

I'm bleary-eyed tonight, and must get some sleep. Thanks for all of the lovely comments and kind words. I'll catch up with you tomorrow. Til then...
