Noir in Pastel

No matter how much this alleyway wants to look tough, it just can't overcome that pistachio ice cream wall...

Oh thanks. Now I'll want ice cream all day. :)

Very nice colors. I love the blue and the aqua (pistachio) and the beige.

The beige building on the left definitely used to be my friend and fellow bandmate's recording studio and the location where Barry Hansen (Dr. Demento) recorded his radio show in the early- mid-70s. It's odd that the building, which must be very old is still standing. Maybe it's on the preservation list even though it's a large wooden garage on an alley.

Wow, nice trivia/fact, Mister Earl!
I'm with Judy - now I want a bowl of ice cream, with the pistachio nuts mixed in.

It's like Hockney meets East of West LA!!! What a cool shot (and fab colors). Believe it or not, the former owners of our wood frame two story peaked roof house painted it a slightly lighter shade of pistachio (we always thought it looked like mint chip ice cream without the chips), and with a bright purple front door. It certainly had a way of clearing the gray gloom. :-)

Oh, and thanks for the background, Mr. Earl! I loved Dr. Demento when I was a kid. Fun to know this was the place. Laurie, you're just stumbling over all kinds of history in SoPas!

This scene could have been shot in a number of countries. I first thought of Mexico and the Philippines because of bright colors. Ireland too, except for the palm trees. But, the condition of curb reveals it could only be South Pasadena.

No palm trees in Ireland?

dbdubya said...

None that I saw. Lots of churches, cemeteries, and pubs, but no palm trees.

Also, not many bright blue skies in Ireland!!!

Thanks, guys!

I just love the Dr. Demento connection. The cool things I learn from this blog!

Until tomorrow, everyone. (And do check in tomorrow. It's a special post.)

When you get a new calendar, do you go straight to the month of your birthday? This day was mine and your photo looks like me. Somewhere in the in-between is the adjacent
