Sign of the Times

He looked me in the eye
And then he told me his heart
He said I cry like you cry
And I'm afraid of the dark
He said I'd like to put this gun down
And go home today
But it seems
That war won't go away.
He said, I bleed like you bleed
And it tears me apart
I need to know,
Where does peace start?
He said I cry like you cry
As I watch your flag fly
He looked me in the eye
and he told me his heart
And then he said,
Where does peace start?

Speaking of Christmas windows, has anyone seen the window at Fancy That on Mission in San Marino that replicates the window in A Christmas Story?
I have to get over there!

Seems even if we're not in it, somewhere, every day, someone always is.

Beautiful photo, beautiful lyrics, beautiful concept for today... I am so grateful that I'm a big fat sap who tears up when Little Drummer Boy is playing at Vons, and shops and houses are decked in glittering lights.

... and I wish everyone were home and the guns were oiled and put away in storage.

Laurie, Mister Earl, Yak: I'm sappy for all the reasons you are sapppy.....I love wreaths, especially Christmas glittery ones. I love the poem, the show window, what you said, Yak. Bear with me. Tears mixed with joy. Many memories. Merry Christmas to all with love.

Not that I really know anything about history, but even WWI, which I believe is known as "the good war," spawned the next political generation in Germany. If there had been no WWI, there would have been no Hitler.

Actually, Karin, WWII is known as the Good War because it was the war against fascism, but you're right that WWI led to WWII because the winners of WWI did not rebuild Germany. The lesson was learned after WWII and Germany, Japan, and Italy were transformed.

I don't understand what we're doing in Afghanistan. If the Russians couldn't succeed there, how do we think we will? And Obama's plan to beef up troops and then reduce troops makes no sense. It's strange how people become president and start buying in to the same old tactics that don't work.

Mr. Earl: The Russians weren't just foolin' around in Afghanistan, like we appear to be doing. They had a full-scale, lengthy commitment of troops and resources and got exactly... nowhere. The Russians proved the futility of engaging a feudal culture, whose motivations and convictions we are just too damned yuppified to grasp.
