I hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday, and will have 364 more ahead till next Christmas! Got up late and made hash browns out of the leftover latkes from Thursday. Had a very relaxing day, cooking with my two new All Clad stainless frying pans recommended to me by Susan C of Open Mouth, Insert Fork. These pans demand that they be cleaned up immediately.

Also did a little track cleaning so the trains will be running on time for Laurie, Jon, and Raine's visit.

Then began another cleaning project that has popped up unexpectedly in this little town.

Today it's a visit to a musical headed for Broadway Louis and Keely Live at the Sahara recommended by people at a Christmas Eve gathering.

Then in the evening, it's off to Joe's American Bar and Grill in Burbank to see rockabilly star James Intveld.

I think I have A Christmas Story memorized by now.

WV: stris - what many of you are feeling this time of year, and which pops up unexpectedly when you're not looking.

...and the headless statue from the Arroyo makes an appearance. Love the berries that have been wrapped around her wrist:)

If many of us are, "worn out", I think we're probably not celebrating Christmas in the right spirit. Our focus may not be on the reason for this holyday.

a good kind of exhausted

Don't you love that headless statue? When I saw her decorations, I just had to post another shot.

I've got our traditional Christmas curry bubbling away today -- it was too hectic to get to it yesterday. The entire house looks like a messy wing of FAO Schwartz!

It's boxing day in many parts of the world, known as the Day of Goodwill in South Africa -- a day traditionally dedicated to charity. It's a good time to review some of the wonderful charitible organizations that need our help. Two of my favorites are Kiva and Donors Choose.

Traditional Christmas Curry? What is in that?

By traditional, I meant the Allees' traditional CHristmas curry. Years ago I decided that the big hoopla Christmas dinner was way too much work -- and neither Jon nor I was that crazy about the classic turkey/ham/sweet potatoes fare. So, we started our own tradition of a huge pot of Christmas curry with lots of spices. It slow cooks all day, filling the house with spicy scents and is ready at the end of the day when everyone is too pooped to cook anyway. Add a salad with cranberries and some CHristmas cookies or spice cake and... voila. Our Christmas feast. You can email me for the curry recipe!

I immediately loved the humor and sentiment of the shot. Those berries flanked by the poinsettias add that pop of red.

We had Christmas Chili. I too am tired of ham and/or turkey, so we had a spread of all kinds of things to put in the chili like cheese, chopped onion, sour cream, Fritos (for those who wanted 'frito pie') as well as a large salad with mixed greens, grape tomatoes, avocado and carrot strips. I made a big ol' black skillet of cornbread and my usual yellow cupcakes with mocha fudge icing. I can't imagine why I've gained 4 pounds this week. :)

wv: unkylat

Uncle Latve's nickname given to him by the 18 month old twins last year after he handed out a myriad of Christmas toys to the children.

Great photo - it looks like this lovely lady is holding a T-bone steak in her left hand. Perhaps I see that because I just got back from a steak dinner at Damon's Steakhouse in Glendale with some of the family - my wife, son, daughter-in-law, and mother.
