Waiting...

I kind of wanted to hang around and see who this person was waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for -- but that would have been insufferably nosy. Still ... I wondered.

As I drove home, I remember a few lines of this John Burroughs poem:

Waiting

Serene, I fold my hands and wait,
Nor care for wind, nor tide, nor sea;
I rave no more 'gainst time or fate,
For lo! my own shall come to me.

I stay my haste, I make delays,
For what avails this eager pace?
I stand amid the eternal ways,
And what is mine shall know my face.

Asleep, awake, by night or day,
The friends I seek are seeking me;
No wind can drive my bark astray,
Nor change the tide of destiny.

What matter if I stand alone?
I wait with joy the coming years;
My heart shall reap where it hath sown,
And garner up its fruit of tears.

The waters know their own and draw
The brook that springs in yonder height;
So flows the good with equal law
Unto the soul of pure delight.

The stars come nightly to the sky;
The tidal wave unto the sea;
Nor time, nor space, nor deep, nor high,
Can keep my own away from me.

I'm waitin' at the station
I can choose my destination
I'm a free soul, I got no chains
But it's a long time between trains

This is one of those images that has layers of interest. You just keep stepping back into each one. Makes me think of one of those pop up cards that have that 3D effect. LOVE the poem. From the thumb, look in the background with the stoplight. It looks like a golf shirtwith buttons hanging on the awning by the lamp . HEE HEE

I like the dupliacion of round shapes too - in the vessel of the fountain, the area below, and all of the tables. NICE JOB.

the poem is just beautiful and a perfect compliment to this photo. The water droplets and the person waiting farther back. Good job on this one L.

I think he's a confused sports fan. You must have taken this photo on Saturday at about the same time as the Pasadena marathon was being held. This fellow decided to walk over to Starbucks and have a cup of coffee and watch the race go by. He's looking down Fair Oaks for the runners and can't understand why they haven't passed. Problem is, he doesn't realize he's in South Pasadena and there's no So Pas Marathon.

The fountain reminds me of another bit of poetry:

Water, water, everywhere
But not a runner in sight.

A lovely, lonely feeling... and the water droplets are spectacular!

For Mr. Earl:

My date
Is late again
If I hadn't just
Kissed her,
I'd date her sister.

Woohoo! (that's a good sound)
Well done! what a combo to produce so much feeling. Even without the poem, the photo is the best.

I had John Burroughs confused with William Burroughs. I'm slow like that.

So what were you up to? I think you either dropped in for a donut or to run off copies or to pick up some more dichondra seed.

A haiku...

When I wait -- I dream
I'm waiting for nirvana
between fountain drops.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Wonderful ones,

Thanks for the comments, lyrics -- and even an original haiku! I am thrilled to have you all as readers.

Pasadena Adjacent -- not dichondra seed but a few more succulants. (And a coffee. Of course.)

Thanks, everyone. Until tomorrow...

I'm so predictable. The mono caught my eye, the water stopped action of course captured beautifully.
