Yes Laurie, you never know when you'll run into John Irving.

Can an image be an oxymoron? The juxtaposition of that gaudy commercial message against the innocence of a baby-soft blue sky and clouds is jarring... like finding a big fat spider in a playpen.

KUSC just played a snippet of James Joyce reading from FW.

Just when you had us convinced that South Pasadena was a modern Mayberry...

Let's try this again...

"There's all for one, and one Foremost."

An appropriate subject on this day when we're all Irish.

Dear Petrea,

RE: A very mint green house. Thank you.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

And from that day forward, South Pasadena officials scratched their heads, wondering how their fine city was branded a wino paradise.

Margaret---that store and that sign has been on that corner in SoPas longer than I've been alive---it is ancient.

Mayberry had liquor stores, you just never SAW them!

It *IS* on the outskirts of town, nearly in Highland Park for cryin' out loud! ;-)

As an aside, I used to ride my bike down the hill or come down the "city steps". Friends and I would load up on sugar and pop and muster enough energy to either walk all those darn steps back up the hill or push our bikes up the hill---cause you can't ride all the way up the hill, no matter how much sugar you've had, at least not on a cruiser or even 3-speed bike.

I wonder if they sell Guinness and Harp there. I'd like to make a black and tan.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY !

You can get it all at Foremost. One guy got over $100,000.00 there playing Lotto! All I ever got there was fat!

Oh Mister Earl, and a helluva good time as well, right?

If 3:04 thinks Foremost is ancient... there used to be a Shell Gas Station there before anyone thought of a liquor store, back in the day across the tracks when Mama and Papa Don used to serve up the greatest Pizza bread in the SG Valley. Still light years away from Highland Park......

Happy St. Patrick's day to you too, Dixie Jane! and to all.

I think I remember hearing about that Lotto win, Mr. Earl. I guess you can get just about anything in South Pasadena if you know where to look!

For some great Irish music, based right here in Southern California, check out:
www.myspace.com/dublin4
and Google "The Syncopaths".

Paul Carr, from Dublin, is my bodhran (Irish frame drum) teacher. They are authentically Irish.

The Syncopaths are Contemporary Celtic.

As a collector of Celtic music, I can recommend these groups as absolute favorites !!!

Happy St. Paddy's Day, everyone! I hope everyone got a little lucky and had a little gift of gab but not too much blarney...

Shanna, thanks for the excellent Irish music suggestions!

I didn't think about St. Patrick's Day when I first thought about posting this picture - I just loved the graphic against the beautiful sky. Also, the idea of a liquor store called "Foremost" just cracks me up. I'm really happy you guys enjoyed it.

Until tomorrow!
