This cheerful cottage in the historic Mission West area always makes me smile. Like the boldly colored apartment buildings on Mound Street, this place happily flaunts its unexpected paint choice amid more subdued neighbors. (Hey, I think I hear John Mellancamp playing right about now…)

Such a charming cottage.
How do you spend your lunchtime? Sydney Daily Photo
Flaunt away - it is a gorgeous colour. The house is just my style.
Too cute! If I every have a house again (instead of an apartment), I could handle one like this. And I'd paint it bright yellow, maybe trimmed with white and parakeet blue.
I also like the glass door and what we called a "picture window" when I was a child. They give the house an open, generous look. And the beautiful, dappled lawn... that's a treasure we rarely see in newer neighborhoods, where the trees, if any, are palms that shade only themselves.
Laurie, this and other South Pas homes showcased in your blog remind me of times when we had coffee with our neighbors every morning.
I'm a fan of little pink houses
Yes, I love this too. Almost any color would do nicely on a house like this, especially with the white trim and porch roof for counterpoint. But I draw the line at aqua/teal type colors. I don't know why, but I didn't even like using those Crayolas as a kid, so the aversion runs deep somehow. Blue is good, green is good, the in between is not so good.
I agree with Elaine! I am not an aqua fan either. We used to call them Jello houses when I was little!
This house looks fabulous!
Thanks for your kind thoughts on my post from yesterday!
Pink is certainly the most cheerful color. Hmmm, ... this house somewhat reminds me of Barby doll house. :D
Laurie,
great photo and wonderful colors.
Seems perfect to me.
I wonder if the occupants dress like
the house?
Surprisingly, that color looks great on that house. The apartment buildings look like one my friend lived in after high school. I remember going to the Realto too, but I don't recall what I saw there.
It does make me wonder if Ken and Barbie will answer. It's so vivid and tiny. Definitely a culteral difference, ntohing like this in the UK.
Cute cottage but the shocking pink color is too much for my taste LOL.
Why that's right next door to If This House Could Talk from July 26! I love this little block. Neat little houses, great colors, cute little gardens.
The pepper trees on the block are also the favorites of the local flock of wild green parrotts. Check out the movie The Wild Parrotts of Telegraph Hill to see the life of a similar flock in San Francisco.
I like to park on this street when I go to Trader Joe's. The TJ's parking lot is one of the most scarey places in South Pas. Just walking across it to the store is an adventure.
The first Trader Joe's to be named that was in South Pasadena beginning in 1967, and the headquarters was in South Pasadena for many years.
A few years ago I played in a band at a Halloween Party at the home of the president of Trader Joe's. Rumor has it that he started out with the company standing on the corner wearing a gorilla suit and holding a sign to get people to come into the store.
:) It does bring a smile to the face and I began humming 'raspberry beret' to boot.
Just read your profile again and no, motherhood didn't eat your career simply redirected it!! Being a Mommy is the most satisfying career! and look, you are sharing such fun with us too. :) Keep it coming.
Hi folks,
Elaine and Kelly... I'm going to have to find a teal house just to taunt you two... :-)
Double D, I haven't met the occupants of the house, but in my mind they look like characters out of a fairy tale. I'll be so disappointed when I find out they're merely human!
Welcome bertn! I think colors like this are definitely a love or hate kind of thing. (You can tell which side I am on, huh?)
Mister Earl, I must check out that film. And you remind me... it's time to do a post about Trader Joes!
Hi Isadora! I'm glad to see you back. Thanks for the nice words about being a mom. :-)
The next house photograph I post will be a classic Craftsman -- something South Pas is known for. I just have to pick which one I want to highlight...
Thanks for being here, everyone!
This is just the most adorable cottage ever!
No need to taunt; I live next door to an aqua one, with teal trim. My soul has become hardened, sad to say. Bitter, even. Grouchy.
The house of the pink flamingos?
