Free-wheeling

This little guy was decidedly unimpressed with yesterday’s Cruz’n For Roses Hot Rod and Classic Car Show. He must have been the only one there not wowed by the stunning collection of automobiles on display. Mission Street was filled with over 400 examples of exactly why human beings are addicted to the gasoline powered internal combustion engine. All eras of classic motoring were represented – from a 1929 Model T to a 1993 Alfa Romeo Spider convertible. (My husband drooled over the pristine 1969 Z-28. I was too busy ogling the marshmallow-white ’61 Corvette convertible…)

Funds raised from the show will contribute to South Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses float – the oldest self-built float in the parade.

I was there too, Laurie. I was there early, then came back later with my camera! The 1960 Buick convertible reminded me of the 6th grade, when all the girls wanted to ride home from dance class in the one owned by the mother of the most popular boy in the school! I love the TR-3 and the pre-1962 Corvettes. A great thing about the show is the DJ who plays great doo wop records - actual vinyl - no CDs! I even bought a shirt with a woody on it so I'll be ready for those "Hawaiian" bar-b-ques next summer.

The little guy was probably starring at a chick with a short skirt and nice legs carrying colorful balloons. Just kidding!

I would have loved to have seen that. That Buick? with the front mounted missles looks vaguely familiar. Oh, and I hadn't thought about it but we can all cheer for your float in the parade this year!

Ah, now here's something we DO have! Vintage car shows seem to happen every two seconds where I live but people insist on driving old buses, not old cars!

I must say... not to ignore the amazing composition of this shot, with the old guy looking left and the young guy looking right... that once again you have observed a child in the act of inhabiting his own, special world, one that grownups have... grown out of. I love it!

When can we purchase copies of your photos?

Hello Little Laurie,
Dogs have gotten old. Vintage cars are the new money shot. Have you seen the 2009 float design yet?

It's a good idea to open the car to see the engine...I like your choice of the B&W picture.

If I was at eye-level with whitewall tires, I'd be looking for other action too. Everyone in the photo seems lost in their own worlds, that's why I like it.

Your husband has a very good taste. 1969 Z-28 is one of the cars heading my dream cars list :)

Now, see. I'm going in the unpopular direction. I would have preferred to see this in color. Unless the cars are painted teal or aqua. ;^)

Just thought I'd let you folks know that the Rialto will be showing Rocky Horror Picture Show on Nov 1 and possibly this Saturday. The marquee was a bit ambiguous on the Saturday part, but was clear on the Nov 1 part.

Classic, cars, classy image. That metal just sparkles. This could only me mono. In fact I think we may have to start a petition for you to be encouraged to indulge in your mono love. I am selfish, I just love the way you use b&w.

Howdy gang,

Mister Earl, we probably bumped right into each other at the car show! Thanks for the heads up about Rocky Horror at The Rialto. I wonder who is hosting it.

Tanya and Honza03 -- welcome!

Yak, thank you so much. I can count on you to pick up on what I am thinking when I shot a photo. Are you sure we don't share the same brain?

Elaine, I liked the shot in both color and mono, but the high contrast called out for black and white and without it, all the colors distracted me from the child. That was my reasoning for choosing this one.

Babooshka, thanks. Twist my arm!

Big Pasadena Adjacent, nope. Haven't seen the actual float design yet but I saw the name of it on the website.

thanks for all the nice words, fine people.

I like this moment in black and white. Looks like it comes from the old timer and classic.

Classics, wonderful shot in B&W. I imagine the litttle kid is looking at the ice cream stand and wondering why the heck he doesn't have a cone in his hand. ;)

Love the kid in the stroller. Wish I knew what caught his attention! Great choice to do this bw!
