In December of 2007, after many years on the west side of Los Angeles (and at least a third of those years spent stuck in traffic on Pico Boulevard) my family settled into a happy little house in South Pasadena. Join me as I put down roots in my new home town.
About This Blog
The thumbnail view: A picture a day from South Pasadena, California -- an incorporated city within the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. All photos up to November, 2008 were taken with a Fujifilm Finepix E900 camera. I added a Fujifilm Finepix S2000HD in December 2008, and I switch between the two. I regularly crop images and use basic editing software to adjust the brightness, intensify the contrast, and increase color saturation. Other than that, all images come straight from the camera with minimal alteration. (If I couldn't have done it in a darkroom, I won't do it with a computer.)
The bigger picture: Consider it a love letter to the place I call home.

All photos and prose on this blog copyright Laurie Allee. Reproduction without written permission is prohibited. (Plus, it's really uncool.)
Our very own Altadena poet Linda Dove weaves words into thoughtful tapestries in her moving new poetry collection In Defense of Objects. You'll want to read these beautiful poems aloud.
Kevin McCollister of East of West LA astounds us with haunting images of Los Angeles. But since we can't put his blog on our coffee table, we can buy his fantastic new book. I believe Kevin's images truly capture the quixotic and often heartbreaking soul of LA.

Oh My GAWD!! Can I just tell you how much I adore this? Totally Zen in its presentation. WOW. Fabulous. I'd love it HUGE on a wall.
I thought haiku fitting:
peaceful the branches
lightness of being on earth
balance of nature
Without Laurie, no one would know.
Nice observation and beautiful composition.
This is beautiful on its own; it also goes beautifully with the X trees, below.

How did you know this would make great portrait? You amaze me sometimes. I would have only seen twigs. And a garage.
Great photo, Laurie. Where is that? I must drive by it all the time. ;-)
This is just the kind of thing I love. Look at all those subtle colors. Just beautiful.
Thanks so much, you guys. I kinda like this one, so I'm really pleased that you all responded to it.
Welcome back, Virg!
Jean, I wish I could say I planned the two shots to complement each other on the blog layout but it was a happy accident.
