Great that you got a shot of probably a mating pair of our wild parrots. I'll try to come up with a caption later... meantime it's another opportunity to mention the film The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, a wonderful movie about SF's flock of wild parrots.
In December of 2007, after many years on the west side of Los Angeles (and at least a third of those years spent stuck in traffic on Pico Boulevard) my family settled into a happy little house in South Pasadena. Join me as I put down roots in my new home town.
About This Blog
The thumbnail view: A picture a day from South Pasadena, California -- an incorporated city within the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. All photos up to November, 2008 were taken with a Fujifilm Finepix E900 camera. I added a Fujifilm Finepix S2000HD in December 2008, and I switch between the two. I regularly crop images and use basic editing software to adjust the brightness, intensify the contrast, and increase color saturation. Other than that, all images come straight from the camera with minimal alteration. (If I couldn't have done it in a darkroom, I won't do it with a computer.)
The bigger picture: Consider it a love letter to the place I call home.
You can click on any picture to see a larger version.
All photos and prose on this blog copyright Laurie Allee. Reproduction without written permission is prohibited. (Plus, it's really uncool.)
Our very own Altadena poet Linda Dove weaves words into thoughtful tapestries in her moving new poetry collection In Defense of Objects. You'll want to read these beautiful poems aloud.
Kevin McCollister of East of West LA astounds us with haunting images of Los Angeles. But since we can't put his blog on our coffee table, we can buy his fantastic new book. I believe Kevin's images truly capture the quixotic and often heartbreaking soul of LA.

The shortest distance between two birds is a line.
I will try in the morning. For now, I'm rather enchanted by your picture.
WV Perion. Just missing a g and another n. (I think)
Seldom do I see just two birds on a wire. Usually it is a whole party. These two seem pleased with their lot. I am happy that they have each other.

"Honey, my ears are burning. I think Leonard Cohen is writing another song about us. If he only knew what it's really like up here."
WV: homidar. I think it's a kind of "gaydar" for gang members.

Can't come up with anything about apple pie.
Ummmm. Those black birds think it's cool
to be part of an apple pie.
