Sour Grapes

I missed a great shot of one of the prettiest old cars I've ever seen. It would have been ideal to include in my series. Picture it: a vintage white Thunderbird ...high polished, pristine, perfect. It was strategically parked in front of a Craftsman home yesterday and, wouldn't you know it, the batteries in my camera were bad. When I went back later, the car was gone.

J.D. Salinger once wrote, "I don't even like old cars. I mean they don't even interest me. I'd rather have a goddamn horse. A horse is at least human, for God's sake."

Well alrighty, then! That old white T-bird was derivative, anyway...

Love the salinger quote - first time I've heard it.

Look at the juxtaposition of those horses and one in light and one in silhouette!!!!!!! I love this so much. Of course, you created a slight diagonal line connecting them as well. Awesome.

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.

The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears.

The horse in silhouette is a projection of the blaze-faced horse's dream of freedom.

When I was eight I wrote my first short story... about a beautiful, FEMALE stallion! The critics were quick to ridicule my error, but even then I intuited it was OK to cross boundaries in pursuit of freedom.

Another gorgeous shot, Laurie... and may the white T-Bird park in front of your house!

Laurie, one of these days remind me to tell you about all the great shots I didn't get.

Sorry to have missed the white T-bird this time. But it will be back. Meanwhile, I love to look at horses. Even used to ride, English saddle, boots, breeches, until one ran away with me under a wire and I ducked just in time. I don't want to even think about it. This is a great shot, Laurie.

What Judy said! This is a fabulous photograph, bringing to mind some of Julia Margaret Cameron's portraiture.

Between a horse and bird, I'll take the horse.

I was out all day so I didn't get to write something I wanted to write. Something about a story I once wrote in which the wind blew through the horse's mane and made sounds like a harmonica.

Anyway, I love the photo.

Thanks everybody! This is one of my favorite recent shots -- even though I threw it in here with a smart-alecky post. :-) I really appreciate the kind words.

Til tomorrow...

Gorgeous shot. I'll trade the Tbird for this one anyday. Hey, we went to see the tango dancers on the Seine Wed. night and guess whose camera started acting STUPIDE?? The photo op of the century and I got 4 very marginal shots!

Virg, that's terrible! What was wrong with your camera?
