Looking Toward a New Year

It's January 1st, and that means it's Theme Day for participating City Daily Photo bloggers. Today's theme is Photo of the Year.

I don't know if this is my best shot of 2011, but it's certainly a favorite. I grabbed it on Arroyo Drive last summer right after the San Gabriel Valley had been drenched by a storm. The receding clouds created all sorts of bright, happy colors in the sky, and made the view from my favorite look out seem all the more expansive and hopeful.

A nice mood for a great new year, right?

To see a panorama of incredible images, please take a few moments to check out photographers from all over the world adding their best shots to today's theme gallery. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Happy New Year, everybody!

Happy new year Laurie. I'm hunkered in for the night listening to second hand Mariachi music and gunfire.

Anyhow, that is a lovely shot. I missed it the first time around. Reminds me of Maxfield Parrish. That view, as cynical as it is to say it, is the one I now have, since all those strategically placed trees on my block were blown over.

I love how the tree's leaves are fanning down kind of like fern fronds.

What a beautiful representation of the hopefulness of January 1st.

I've been catching up on some great albums from 2011, thanks to a tweet from Time Magazine. http://ti.me/rN0CO3

Happy New Year Y'all!!

I don't always check out the other blogs but since it was the "best of," I decided to check them out and really found some winners.

I encourage all of you to do the same. AND COMMENT!! (nothing makes a photographer happier than a comment about their work)

Don't you love how the internet has really made us closer, despite the miles that separate us? Yay for technology.

Sounds like a combination German/French baked good. I'll try one after my black eyed peas and cabbage.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone from down Texas way. Beautiful cerulean sky today and a fresh North wind. A good day to stay in, look out and eat black eyed peas. Oh yes, there is that parade.

Happy New Year, everyone. Laurie, that could be me in your shot today. The spot is a favorite to pause and look after cycling around the Rose Bowl. You captured it beautifully.

It's weird cause the Rose Parade is TOMORROW. That's just wrong!!

Still loving this picture so much, LA. I may stare at it every few hours to make the decoration put-up more tolerable. HA

Now the NY dinner cooking begins.

I think I need to start drinking.
