Play Through

South Pasadena's Arroyo Seco Golf Course was hit pretty hard by the windstorm. There are several other giant trees uprooted near this one. (I'm not sure how it affects the par for this hole.)

Power is still out for a large portion of South Pasadena residents -- including yours truly. Here's hoping things get back to normal soon. For status updates on power outages in South Pas, click here.

You're still without power? What have you been doing? Let me know if you need anything. (I know, it's kind of silly... our cars are the one thing we can count on.)

Your title is bittersweet. Yes, the weather is nice and you can play a round of golf, but you are also looking through what used to be the root system of a beautiful tree. AUGHHHHHHH

Still no power at my house either. I don't know how people with kids are dealing. One night is like camping but four?

Who cares what I think? said...

Two nights camping indoors with the grand kids was definitely enough. Our son and daughter in law booked a hotel a couple of days ago. We were freezing our asses off. Going to check our power situation this morning. Good luck with your power too.

36 degrees on my balcony. Power better be back soon or I'm going to start burning the furniture for heat.

This is just the pits for you guys. I know there are widespread power outtages in all parts of the country during the winter when there are feet of snow, but that doesn't make it any less difficult for those of you enduring it.

Generators are a big thing here in Texas. Do people ever use them there?

last of the generators was sold Friday, according to one friend who called or visited any place with the potential to sell one.

and remember to file a claim with SCE for lost perishables or other losses due to the outage. Not their fault for the outage, or that there are so many to deal with, but it DOES encourage them to get on the stick faster NEXT time to get you back up and running.

And remember this for your quake planning kits---think of all the things you wanted or needed during this outage and plan for it b/c SCE won't move any faster in a quake situation.

Neighbor across the street has a generator and had a lamp and TV going the other night. Friend at Starbucks has a battery-powered lamp just for such emergencies.
Many people without power at least till tonight and maybe beyond.

@Trish - I can't imagine that SCE would be liable for perishables. I don't keep much food around, but I did have a few frozen things from Trader Joe's. I was hoping they'd reimburse me! ;-)

Still no power for us either.

That's what you call a tree hazard on a golf course.

Amazing that it's taken this long, Laurie. Whoever said this was earthquake prep is right. But this once shouldn't be that hard.

more than 3 days without power, it is, I believe, a state reg, requiring them to pay for perishables you've lost (or, if say the power comes back on badly and zaps your microwave or TV or computer too). It is part of their doing business in the state--provide power and restore it quickly, or pay for losses. It won't be EASY to find, but the claim forms are available. Not trying to stick it to SCE and I know they are working to get stuff restored, but this is part of their agreement to doing utility business. They know it. TJ's isn't responsible for stuff once you've taken it home, unless, like the meats or cheese we used to buy there, they go bad nearly before you get them home (we no longer buy much other than TJ's brand hard stuff or veggies from them...sad). I liken the claim with SCE as to a claim with an insurance claim---you pay them every month to provide power and gas, they aren't doing that---and part of their agreement to get to be the folks who provide it is not to leave you hanging without power.

Interesting. I had a very rare ice scupture in my freezer. Worth several thousands!

Mr Earl...I believe you need receipts for proof. Just sayin'.
