Palms: Retro

What do you get when you combine a walk in the historic Oaklawn neighborhood with a hipstamatic camera app for your iPhone? This!

Don't worry, I had my good camera with me and took dozens of shots. (Check out my latest column at South Pasadena Patch to see them. It should be posted sometime before lunch today.)

Love the perspective with all of the trees looming over you, as the palms stretch up to the clouds in the background!

Your column this week is great as usual. I am intrigued by the retro processing of this photo. It really looks like it was taken with an old Kodak instamatic camera. This is from your phone? That is wonderful.

LAist had a hipstamatic gallery the other day. This should be in it. Looking forward to more!

A cozy Paradise!

In the lower left-hand corner, there's a wonderful image of a funny looking bird with big feet, wings flapped and ready for a great adventure.

Gorgeous. Reminds of one of those vintage tinted postcards from Hawaii.

Thanks, you guys!

who cares what I think, (I love your name) I saw the LAist gallery and it inspired me to play around even more with all of the toy camera applications for iPhone. I used to love my Kodak instamatic. Many high school memories are recorded on film shot through plastic lenses. (And on Polaroids. I used my sister's fabulous early 70s one that looked like it was made out of white bakelite.) Isn't it great how retro photography really can stir up the emotion of that era?

I tried one of those toy camera apps for my phone and none of my shots came out like this. I guess you actually have to be a photographer to make them look this good!
