2010 South Pasadena Festival of Balloons

Are you ready for a grand, old-fashioned Fourth of July party? You'll be hard pressed to beat South Pasadena's annual Festival of Balloons. Festivities start at 8:00AM with a Kiwanis Club sponsored pancake breakfast at the Fire Station. (Tickets are $7.00, kids under 6 eat free.) The famous South Pasadena Fourth of July parade starts at noon on the corner of Mission and Meridian, ending around 1:30PM at Garfield Park. (Take a look at some of the highlights from last year's parade here on my overflow blog. I'm particularly fond of these classic cars.) The fun continues in Garfield Park with family games and a smorgasbord of culinary delights from local food vendors. At 5:00PM the gates open at the South Pasadena High School football field for the annual fireworks show hosted by the Rotary Club. (Tickets are $7.00, kids under 2 are admitted free.) The rockets don't start red-glaring until 9:00PM, but there will be plenty of food, fun and music to keep you in the spirit of things until then.

Happy Fourth of July, everybody!

I LOVE all the red, white, and blue on the blogs today. Let's hear it for freedom...everywhere in the world!

How much fun!! It's ironic because I just watched a show on the Travel Channel about ice cream, and it featured Fair Oaks Pharmacy.

Happy Independence Day everyone.

The parade wasn't the same without Dan. Who is the new lady chief anyway?

I don't remember her name, but she's not really the new chief. She's just acting or interim chief. It's really unfortunate that her sign didn't say that, and the announcer at Mission and Diamond kept referring to her as "The New Chief." It made me think she'd already been hired, but she has not been. I'm doubt she's even a candidate. Usually, you would not install a candidate as acting leader, because it gives that person a leg up. I wonder if calling her the new chief was intentional so as not to remind people that the real chief is gone.

The Interim Chief's name is DeAnn Wheeless. She's Captain of the Support Services Division.

Hi Laurie! It always gives me so much joy to pour over your beautiful pictures and insightful comments about our tiny, lovely city. The Chupies marched in the Festival of Balloons this year! Mr. Chupie got tired and had to make an early exit because the parade was inconveniently during his nap time but he still a blast. Hope to see you and family around soon! Love, Christine
