Glory be, Laurie! That is an intensely beautiful sky. Bright as an Easter egg. The silhouettes frame it all so nicely. Qué linda!

I love natural framing, but what's cool is that THE FRAMING is the image itself. The little wisps of clouds intermingle with the mostly treeless branches at the top in a kind of visual melody, if there is such a thing. The intense silhouettes with the vivid blue to lavender to orange pink sky just makes my eyes happy. If there ever were eye CANDY, this is it!!!

Maybe a little too late, but the earlier references this week to Willie Nelson as well as the different perspective of the recession tie in with the feel of this image. Enjoy!!

BLUE SKIES

Sooooooooo beautiful. How nice to wake up to those colors. And what a contrast to what I see outside here. :-( But I hear that with all of the cold and rain this winter the wildflowers are happy and will give us a glorious show this Spring.

Thanks, Judy, for Willie Nelson's Blue Skies. I shall always remember his singing to me when Laurie and I were extras in one of his movies a long time ago.

OMG! This is just too gorgeous for comment,

Unless you're Judy, whose wonderful comments about your shots are like mini-tutorials on art and composition. I love reading your comments, Judy!

Thanks, you guys! This pink color was so fleeting, I barely grabbed a shot of it before it was gone.

Woah, Laurie this is incredible!

Yak- art and composition? that would probably be more up Shanna's alley than mine. (well, maybe I learned a little by growing up with her)

The more I look at it, the more I adore it. I'm just such a sucker for a silhouette and then you throw in those colors and I'm in TGIF heaven. I think I need to go have a beverage that has those colors. Let's see, that would mean blue Curaçao and P.I.N.K. vodka. YUM!!

wv: gratic - what I'm naming that new drink. The Pink and Blue Gratic. Heh, I like it. :)

Oh it's needs a splash of granadine too. Let's party!!

wv: funing (yeah, I was just funing ya)

I don't know much about art or composition. I just know that this is another beautiful sunset photo by Laurie. Unbelievable colors with the light filtering through the different varieties of trees

Laurie....fabulous shot...the colors are too much..almost hard to believe. It's yet again, it's one of those photos..if I painted it..no one would believe it!

I loooove Willie Nelson...I'm sooo jealous that Dixie Jane and Laurie got to be extras in his movie!!! Dare I ask which one???

CHieftess, it was Honeysuckle ROse. I was 14 and got to skip two weeks of school. I also got to dance with Slim Pickens. Later, in film school, my classmates were pretty impressed with THAT aspect of the experience!

It was cool.

And thanks so much, everyone, for the kind words. It's always fun to be able to pin down one or MOther Nature's creations.

Julie, I hear you about nobody believing the colors. Here, for example, I barely increased color saturation. I didn't manipulate the colors, just grabbed a shot of what was there.

Judy: I still remember your helping me stretch my canvas when I was in art school at U.T. You were really into it! Jim was so surprised the first time he saw me take some wood, cloth and nails and end up with a stretched canvas to paint on.
Nice analysis of Laurie's composition. Your term "visual melody" is so appropriate.

amazing! I love the contrast of the trees against the sunset, but even more so the clouds up above; they look like a splatter of color an artist decided to add against the blue sky.

I will echo the others. This is stunning.

Great photo, LA. Did you and your mom actually make it into the final cut of Honeysuckle Rose?

TheChieftess said...

Now I have to go out and rent Honeysuckle Rose!!!

You can see Laurie in a red bandana shirt dancing the Cotton Eyed Joe yelling "bullshit" at the appropriate time (during the family reunion scene in the barn). I remember the first time I saw it in the theater and I jumped up yelling "There she is!" to my date's embarrassment. :)

Here's another taste of Willie from the movie:

A Song for You

Shanna - every time I hear gesso (the white medium you paint on a canvas to tighten it once stretched) I think of us on 29th street doing just that.

Dixie Jane said...

Hey, Mister Earl; Yes, Laurie was smack dab in the middle of a dance scene (it was Cotton-eyed Joe). But it was I, talking with Willie beside a gas pump at an old gas station way out in the boon-docks. (not in the film). The scene we were in was a family picnic and it took ten days to film 15 minutes of the movie. While Laurie was very much in view, my presence was mostly dedicated to the cutting room floor.

Laurie Allee said...

Yes, Judy is right. I was quite the Ethyl Barrymore.

It is funny because that film shows up on cable -- sometimes it's renamed On the Road Again. I flipped on the TV one night a few years ago right as "my scene" came on the screen. It was weird.

Unfortunately, Mom didn't make the cut. :-(

This image has just brought up so many things. The magic of a beautiful sky!!

TheChieftess said...

But how fun to talk to Willie by the gas pump...was he trying to pick you up Ms Dixie Jane??? He certainly had that reputation!!!

Anonymous said...

I love it. We were all so charmed by this scene.

Shanna said...

I thought it was Cotton Eyed Joe that y'all were in and came back to ask. Yes, Laurie is very prominent.

Did you know that the Chieftains (of Irish mucic fame) have a CD called "Cotton Eyed Joe"? We heard them last Sunday at the Cerritos Center For The Performing Arts and guess what...Cotten Eyed Joe was one of the pieces they did. But no one yelled "Bull Shit"!

A beautiful sky with wonderful shades of pinks and mauves.
Enjoy your weekend.
Cheers.

Honeysuckle Rose is the name of the film.

Cotton-Eyed Joe is the name of a dance.

Now, you're talking LA!
My word, SG, I thinks she's gotten it!

Yakpate said...

But nothing surpasses Willie's "Angel Flying too Close to the Ground."

I think one of them buzzed this neighborhood and created all that incandescent pink and left a little trail of sparkle that caught the tip of Laurie;s attention and made her go click, click, click...

Shanna said...

Thanks, Cafe Blog Observer. I wondered where you were?!

Laurie Allee said...

Thanks again, everyone. Nothing like a sunset to spark a conversation.

Cafe and Shanna, did I miss somethign?

Until tomorrow, everyone!

Yak...you just hit on my favorite Willie Nelson tune...and I agree with your interpretation of the creation of Laurie's composition!!!

LA...I also wore 3 inch heels throughout high school (my doc says that's part of the reason I have knee problems now!!!) But it was great then...problem was, I always preferred the guys who still were taller...so it's a good thing I dated the Hubman back in high school, cause he's still taller (it only took me 32 years to figure out he was the one I should have stuck with from the start!!!) (but at least now I got that one right!!!)

Shanna, I wunder the same thing about some of my loco bloggers!
